Gloria Williams

October 28, 1945 — August 16, 2020

Gloria Williams was born on October 28, 1945 in Guyana, South America to Hyacinth Trehane and raised by Edgar and Hilda Tute. Gloria passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was 74 years old when she transitioned from this earthly world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven for eternity.

Gloria was the third born of four children. As a child, Gloria attend the St. Angeles All Girls’ School in Guyana, South America. While in Guyana, she met Patrick Williams. She and Patrick were united in holy matrimony on November 23, 1963. After the two were married, Patrick immigrated to the United States to start a new life for himself and his family. Gloria joined her love in 1969 and the young couple lived in New York for many years. To this union of 56 years of relentless love, one son and three daughters were born.

As a young woman, Gloria accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized. In 1989, she joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bobby Jones. For over 30 years, Gloria was a faithful member. She served on the Hospitality Board, Usher Board, Missionary Board and was the Head Cook, all while under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Otis Washington.

Gloria is affectionately known as “Mommy” by her immediate children, “Granny” by all the many babies that she helped raise and “Gi Gi” by her energetic great-grands. Although no longer physically present with us, memories of her “Say it like it is” personality, fashionable style, holiday gatherings, and her delicious chow mein, pepper-pot, and homemade bread will forever be engrained in the hearts and minds of those who love her.

Gloria has been reunited with her mother, Hyacinth Trehane; uncle and aunt, Edgar and Hilda Tute; great-grandsons, Naze’a and Cameron; special cousins, Christopher Paris “Crissy”, Barbara Shortt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lurline (Lloyd) Brummell, Shirley (David) Benn, Kenrick Cordwell, Eric Walks; and other beloved family and friends.

Gloria’s legacy continues to expand through her immediate children, Andrew (Demetria) Williams, Golyanna (Kelvin) Williams-Mack, Andrea Williams, Arlene Williams; seven grandchildren, Cheris, Candis, Takeshia, Andrew, Telvin, Jalen and Julian; eight great-grandchildren, Jordan, Maleek, Mekiah, Amaya, Marquise, Nia, Markael, and Josiah; siblings, Ronald Terberg, Brenda (Cecil) McCullough, David Trehane; special cousin, Yvonne (Winston) Thompson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and many dear friends, including the Parris, Cordwell, Brummell and Eastman Families.

The Williams family appreciates the many kind expressions of love and concern extended to them during this time of bereavement. The family would also like to express a special thanks to the medical teams at Fresenius Kidney Care Riverside, Covenant HealthCare and the University of Michigan Hospital, Messiah Missionary Baptist Church for their care and service, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
