Joe Bolton, Jr. "Dude"

April 9, 1942 — June 23, 2021

Mr. Joe Bolton, Jr. was born April 9, 1942 in Wiggins, Mississippi to Joe Sr. and Luetta Bolton. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

Joe was a graduate of Beaumont Colored High School. After graduation, Joe relocated to Saginaw, Michigan where he met and married the love of his life, Geneva Bolden, with whom he shared 56 years. To their union, two wonderful sons were born, John Patrick and Joseph Calvin. Joe worked in Security for General Motors Corporation (Saginaw Steering Gear) for many years. He was affiliated with UAW Local 699. Upon his retirement, Joe and Geneva later started a business serving food at the Downtown Saginaw Farmers' Market, currently Saginaw Valley Rehabilitation Center (SVRC), where Joe is known as “The Gumbo Man.” His chicken and cornbread were delicious beyond words.

Joe was a member of Ninth Street Community Church. He loved to travel south to visit his family and reminisce about the old days. His hobbies included photography and watermelon carving. Joe’s presence, smile and wonderful cooking (especially his Louisiana Style Gumbo) will surely be missed by his family, customers, and community.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Patrick Bolton Sr., two brothers, Stanley and James Bolton, two sisters, Lynette and Debra Bolton.

He leaves to carry on his legacy his loving wife, Geneva Bolton; one son, Dr. Joseph C. Bolton; grandchildren, Makayla Bolton, J. Patrick Bolton, Jr., Niekia Brewer, Jeffrey, Jeremy and Diamond Fredricks; great-grandchildren, Josiah, John Patrick, III, Jeremiah and Hezekiah Brewer; sisters, Annie Jewel Hayes, Willie Jean Mickle; nieces, Teresha, Amelia, Jasmine; nephews, Charles, David, Pete, Tim, Willard, Gregory, Larry, Rodney, Ricky and Larry; sisters-in-law, Mamie, Hazel, Edna, Jeanette, Madge; many other loved ones and friends, including special daughter, Ethelind "Vonnie" Scott, special brother, Richard Sangster, faithful dog Jack, and special friends Steve Mason, Elisia Delgado, Ninth Street Community Church Family and SVRC Marketplace Family.
