Mr. Larry James Coleman Sr. was born November 3, 1960 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Russell Sr. and Rosa Coleman. He passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the age of 58 years.
Larry was born and raised in Saginaw. He was a student of Saginaw Public Schools and graduated “Class of 1978.” He loved God and was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Larry worked many years for the City of Saginaw and retired after twenty-six and a half years of faithful service. During that time, he was an active member of SEIU Local 517.
In his spare time, Larry was an avid bowler and weight lifter. He enjoyed working on cars, and he was a good problem solver with a keen eye for detail. More than anything, Larry enjoyed his family and friends. He was a loving husband, caring father, protective brother and loyal friend. He will be missed and forever remembered.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of twenty-two years, Janice Powell-Coleman; mother, Rosa N. Coleman; daughter, Vanessa (Bruce Jr.) Jones; son, Larry Coleman Jr. (Nicole Dillard); grandchildren, Bruce Jones III, Precious Smith-Bell, Brooklyn Jones, James R. Coleman, Jaleeah Lee, Tievares Parham Jr.; sisters, Linda (Richard) Johnson, Mary Coleman; brothers, Michael (Rose) Stacey (Tamlien), Russell Jr. (Verna) Coleman; twenty-one nieces; seventeen nephews; twelve aunts; four uncles; mother-in-law, Lillie B. Faulk; sisters-in-law, Linda Hines, Brenda Miller, Gloria Taylor, Delores Turner, Sharon Staves; brothers-in-law, Rev. James (Shirley), Russell (Aundrunn), Edward (Martha) Franklin, Derome Powell Sr.; godmother, Eloise Powell; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends Johnnie Redeemer, Terri Collier, Orlando Crump, Nate Spears, James Scott, Dave McCollum and David Williams.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Russell Coleman Sr.; grandparents, Booker T. Sr. and Rosa Jackson, Lewis Sr. and Vesta Coleman; brother, Robert L. Coleman; father-in-law, William Powell; brothers-in-law, Sammy L. Hines and Harry Staves.
