Margaret Townsend

September 27, 1962 — October 22, 2020

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 58 years. She was born on September 27, 1962 in Union Springs, Alabama to Frazier Sr. and Ethel Townsend.

Margaret received Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age at Haynes Chapel Baptist in Union Springs. She continued her service to the Lord at Newer Dimensions Fellowship Ministries in Carrollton, Michigan under the leadership of Bishop Maurice Hopgood.

Margaret was affectionately known as “Daisy” and “Mama Lou” by many daycare children, family, and friends. She was an entrepreneur with many endeavors, holding an active daycare license for almost 20 years. Prior to her transition, she was finalizing the grand opening of her second location, “Mama Lou’s Too”.

On a business and personal level, Margaret influenced many lives. Mama Lou was more than just a daycare provider; she was a mother figure who offered a home away from home. However, her service did not begin with her business, she had already been caring for others most of her life, including relatives, friends and even the children of the neighborhood. With a humble spirit, she took pride in all her achievements. For her generous heart, bright smile, style and grace, she will always be remembered.

Awaiting Margaret at heaven’s gates were her parents, Frazier Sr. and Ethel Townsend; sisters, Annie Will Townsend and Bobby Newby; brothers, Curtis Townsend and Willie C. “Ulysses” Weems; nephews, Richard Jr., Bernard and Alberdean Townsend.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Kentavia, Wycovia, and Jalisa Townsend, all of Saginaw, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Martravion, Mar’Cedes, Marnesha, Marquavion, Marquaze, Mariae, and Marlee Townsend; two special grandchildren, Jaime “Smooth” Bell, Jr. and Alfred Barney Jr., both of Saginaw, Michigan; sisters, Susie Mae Townsend, Union Springs, Alabama, Annie Pearl (Jerry) Wilburn, Brenda Townsend, all of Saginaw, Michigan; brothers, Frazier (Katie), Willie James, Sammie (Melinda), Richard Townsend, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Milton (Catherine) Townsend, Duluth, Georgia, Stanley Jerome (Jacqueline) Townsend, Union Springs, Alabama; very special niece, more like sister; Shirley Jackson and nephew Frederick Jackson; aunts, Gladys Stafford, Louise Weems Lee; sisters-in-law, Wilma Weems, Beatrice Townsend, both of Saginaw, Michigan; special friend, Willie “Domino” Johnson all of Saginaw, MI; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to Margaret’s personal prayer warriors, True Company, University of Michigan Hospital, Elerna Eare, Kelly Brushabra, Sarah Walsh, Newer Dimensions led by Bishop Maurice Hopgood, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
