Marvina Laury

December 11, 1971 — November 27, 2021

Life is just a stepping stone, a pause before we make it home.
A place to struggle, grow, and be, until we reach eternity.

Marvina Dionda Latrice Laury began her life’s journey on December 11, 1971 in the arms of her parents, Vivian Laury and Myron Duane Thompson. A beautiful baby girl, she was loved and adored by her family and friends.

Marvina, affectionately called “Vina”, lived every moment of her life unapologetically. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family, especially her “mini-me” and baby, Tomari. You could always find Vina laughing about something. She made sure that her family, friends, and loved ones felt loved in word and in action. She would often say, “You know I love you!” But don’t get it twisted. That sweet side of our dear Vina had another side, if you messed with anyone she loved. Her immediate response would be accompanied by a few choice words.

Marvina attended Saginaw Public Schools and Delta College. She shared her enthusiasm and beautiful smile while working in various capacities, including positions at Kmart and the Odyssey House. She learned about the Lord as a young child attending church with her grandparents and their prayers were answered July 30, 2019 when she found her way back to her foundational roots. With her hands lifted high and tears rolling down her cheeks, she rededicated her life to the Lord, July 30, 2019, during the Fashion Share program at the Wolverine Headquarters. She said that she was tired. Many young ladies joined her at the altar that day and gave their lives to the Lord, as well.

Vina leaves to celebrate her loyal and loving spirit four daughters: Kashanique Laury, Chatori Laury, Daisha Fraizer, and Tomari Youngblood, and two sons: Zachary Laury and Jaylen Rogers, all of Saginaw, Michigan; parents, Vivian Spiller and Myron D. (Tiffany) Thompson; grandmother Lillie Mae Fraizer; granddaughters: Talayah Laury and Markaylah Riley; grandson: Kyrie Riley; three sisters, Rasheda Laury, Indianapolis, Indiana, Kujuanna Ray, Saginaw, Michigan, Amber (Demetrius) McKeever, Aiken, South Carolina; two brothers, Sonny (Carmen) Spiller Jr. Indianapolis, and Pastor Jarvis (Michelle) Scott, Defiance, Ohio; nieces: Sha’Myah & Sanae Murphy and Kennedi Spiller & Mikayla Wright (all of Indianapolis), Sharmain Gibson (Aiken, South Carolina), Britni Witherspoon (Las Vegas, Nevada), and Zariah Scott (Defiance); nephews: Jahmon and Jorden Spiller (Indianapolis), Myles and Myron Murray (Saginaw), Dallas McKeever (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Jordan Scott (Defiance); uncles; Rex Laury, M.T. Jr. (Ivory) Thompson, Dr. Billy (Tracy) Thompson, Randy Thompson, Darrell, Kentrez, Jonathan, and Ronald Fraizer; aunts: Bessie McDole, Phyllis Sharper, Dr. Gwendolyn (Dr. Vincent) McMillon, Doris Laury, Monica, Rockeandrea (Saginaw), and Keisha Frazier; special cousins: Rosie Diggs, (Saginaw), and Yondina Phillips (Grand Rapids); lifelong friend, Tommy Youngblood; extended family, Emmaus House Family, and special friend, James Porter.

Marvina was proceeded in death by her baby brother, Myron Duane Ray; grandfather Z.L. Laury; grandparents, Reverend M.T. & Pecola Thompson; and uncles, James, Leon, Henry and Perry Laury.

Vina’s journey of life ended and her spirit ascended on November 27, 2021 after 49 years. She will be remembered as a woman full of life with a soldier mentality and a heart of gold. Her face will always be hidden deep inside our hearts, and the precious moments she gave us will never, ever depart. Her love will stay with us forever.

Vina, we’re all going to miss you Girl,
as you join Lil’ Mikey - your baby brother, in that NooWurld.
Our hearts are hurting, but we are happy to know,
you are in a place with no more pain, tears, suffering, and sorrow.
Goodnight for now. You’re in God’s Hand.
We'll see you in the morning, according to His master plan.
