On August 15, 2023, the loving and kind-hearted Ms. Ada Mae (Blount) Childress gained her wings and her earthly book of life closed. Ada transitioned peacefully at home surrounded by family. Ada was 75 years wise, born the second of eleven children on June 23rd, 1948, in Canton, Mississippi, to Mary Blount.
Ada moved to Saginaw, Michigan, in the late 1960s. Throughout life, she has held many titles. She was a very special Mama, Grandma, Auntie, Aunt Mae, Auntie Ada, Ma Ada, and to many, simply Ada Mae.
Ada expressed her love silently, and although she may not have said “I love you,” she showed her love in a way that only she could. Ada was the link in the chain when it came to her family. Her love for us all was and will remain unconditional.
Ada enjoyed many things – BINGO, football (especially the San Francisco 49ers), HGTV, The Gameshow Network, and vanilla ice cream with a red Faygo Pop, to name a few. Ada’s favorite color was yellow, representing happiness and hope. Family was everything to her and she was our fierce protector.
Ada leaves to cherish her memory two children, Julia (Jacob) Johnson and Anthony Childress; five grandchildren, Dante and Tanisha Johnson, NyKema (Tyrone) Casey-Taylor, Marquitta and Darnell Patman; eight great-grandchildren, Kutarra Beard Jr., Ethan Lowry, Harmony, Tyrone Jr., Tyler and Skye Casey-Taylor, Iesha Cook, Zoi and Tyler Hester and Alexis Berg-Patman; one brother, Anthony Guiden; three sisters, Wanda, and Pamela Guiden, Sandra Powell; sister-in-law, Alberta Blount; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved deeply, including a special nephew, Curtis Brookins Jr.; special nieces, Carolyn Brookins, Ramona (Randy) Rice, Kendral Moore, Nicole Harris, and Anphanette Travis; special cousins, Tyjvanna Payne, and Charles (Renee) Primer.
Ada was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Blount; granddaughter, Antoinette Cook; three brothers, Willie James Blount, Barnett Powell, Claude (Bo-Bo) Blount; brother-in-law, John Wilson; three sisters, Joann Brookins, Ruth Bonner, Denise Ford; sister-in-law, Princess Mannie; uncle, James Earl Blount; aunt, Oneaver Fleming; special nephews, Arnold and Telly Brookins, Robert and Tracy Travis; special niece, Rhonda Travis; and one special cousin, Shirley Primer.
