Agatha Marie Cheeks (Lansing)

Ms. Agatha Marie Cheeks went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 70 years. She was born August 15, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of James, Sr. and Minnie Cheeks.

Agatha was a lifelong resident of Lansing. She was educated in the Lansing School District, graduating from J. W. Sexton in 1970. She was a lone time member of Trinity A.M.E. Church and taught Sunday School to the youth of the church for many years. Agatha was also active at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and was a continuing supporter. Her contribution in the service of others extended to the medical field where Agatha worked as an employee of E. W. Sparrow Hospital for almost 20 years in various positions.

Agatha expressed love to everyone she met and everyone who knew her loved her back. She will always be remembered for her cheerful face along with the kindness and generosity toward others which accompanied her smile. Agatha will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Agatha is survived by her two loving sons, Chandler Cheeks, Sr. and Lamont Eaton; three grandchildren, Bryant Eaton, James Eaton, and Chandler Cheeks, II; six great-grandchildren; two siblings, James Cheeks, Jr. and Cynthia Cheeks; four nephews, Jeff Robertson, Shamarie Ewing, Kevin Butler, and Miguel Trevino; several cousins including Cheryl, Daniel, Shannon, and Dawn Smith of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Darlene, Dolly, and Elijah Fisher of Chicago, Illinois, and Penny White of South Carolina; many other relatives and friends including Gloria Mason, Linda Arnold, Angela West, Susie Shanklin, Fred and Linda Ortiz, Ben Williams, Lonnie and Margaret Banks, James and Pat Cannon, Missey Trudell, Mike, Linda, and Tonya Leek, Ann Mok, and Penny Wali.

She was preceded into glory by her parents, youngest brother, Kevin Cheeks, and her former husband, Raymond Gilbert.
