Mr. Alfred Anderson, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. Age 77 years. He was the son of Leola Anderson and Alfred Anderson, Sr., born Saturday, September 27, 1947, in Valdosta, Georgia.
Alfred graduated from high school in Valdosta, Georgia and headed to Lansing, Michigan to work for General Motors Corporation, where he was employed for 32 years, retiring in 1999. After retiring, he was employed with the Lansing School District as a crossing guard. Alfred had a passion for motor vehicles. He brought his first car in 1966, and his first motorcycle, a Honda 754, in 1969. Alfred was an active rider with the Lansing Dragon’s Motorcycle Club. Later he added 2 snowmobiles, a medium size boat, 3 mopeds, and several Cadillacs, vans, and trucks to his motor vehicle collection.
Alfred was compassionate with animals. He enjoyed dogs, chickens, and most of all, horses. He would put on his cowboy boots and hat to ride his horses throughout the streets of Lansing where he became known as the Lansing Cowboy. Later he joined the Michigan Black Horsemen’s Association in Detroit, Michigan. The Association educated and promoted the interest of Inner-City youth and the surrounding areas in the cultural concept of horsemanship. Alfred also participated in Black Cowboys and Cowgirls Rodeos. He hosted his first rodeo in Springport, Michigan and his second one in St. Johns, Michigan on his 25 acres of land.
After retiring from General Motors Corporation, Alfred and his wife, Ann, wanted a simple life. He purchased several tractors with the intention of farming his own land. However, he found that he would rather just peacefully ride his tractors. He started cutting the grass for several churches in Lansing, some with the acknowledgement of cutting the grass for his enjoyment.
