Allen Rhodes Jr., age 58 years, of Saginaw, Michigan, our beloved son and brother passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 5, 1953 in Bishopville, South Carolina. He was the oldest of 9 siblings.
He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sumter, South Carolina in 1971. He served in the US Army as a military policeman from November 1, 1973 through October 31, 1975. After his honorable discharge he attended Delta College. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior.
Allen leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Early and Azalee Hughes; five sisters, Carolyn (Keith) Young, Santa Fe Springs, California, Alice Hughes, Columbia, Maryland, Janice Hughes, Katy, Texas, Ann V. (Thomas) Mayfield, Houston, Texas, Vicki (Clarence) Mack, Flint, Michigan; two brothers, Elder John Rhodes, Saginaw, Michigan, Early Hughes, Vallejo, California; Al Bradshaw and Nicole Bradshaw, both of Lansing, Michigan; three aunts including a special aunt Lucille Shelby, Granada Thomas, Levater Houston, Saginaw, Michigan; four uncles including two special uncles, Henry (Sony) Chapman and Elijah Hughes, Joshua Hughes, Ernest Hughes, Saginaw, Michigan; a special cousin, Ronnie Pompey; best friend, Milton Jarriett; many nieces, nephews cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Douglas Rhodes; grandparents, James and Vermell Franklin, Joshua and Fanny Hughes.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Palliative Care Staff, Dr. Anna Bartnix and Chaplain Robert Evans.
