Alma Shackelford

Mrs. Alma (Huffy) White Shackelford was born on December 28, 1924 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to the late Dave and Bessie White. She was one of eight children from that union. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She attended Hazlehurst early education before venturing off on her own.

In 1945 she met the love of her life, Mr. Jehu Robert Lee Shackelford of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where they both decided to move north. On July 24, 1946 in Flint, Michigan, they were united in Holy Matrimony and within this union were blessed with six beautiful children. Mr. Jehu Robert Lee Shackelford preceded her in death on May 20, 2005.

Jehu and Alma moved to Saginaw, Michigan in September of 1947, later moving to Burt, Michigan in February of 1955. They were very active members of their community. Alma loved the LORD. She loved to sing His praises both in and outside of the sanctuary. Anyone that knew her knew she loved to tickle any keyboard or piano that was in her presence and playing the harmonica and singing her Heavenly Fathers praises came hand in hand for her, like breathing is to life. She, as well as Jehu, were proud servants of the LORD and with that were proud co-founders of Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Burt, Michigan. In 1979 Alma and Jehu moved back to Pine Bluff, Arkansas and became faithful members of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Alma loved gardening, dressing to impress and wearing her bling. When she had idle time, she enjoyed watching the Price is Right and Lets Make a Deal. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a great cook with her specialties being southern dressing, beans and corn bread, white potato pie and sweet potato pie. She was even able to make food out of the can taste like it was made from scratch. She was a loving wife, caring mother and grandmother, great sister and an even greater friend to all those who knew her. She quietly and peacefully departed this life and began her everlasting life on November 19, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Mildred and Vivian Shackelford; brothers, J.D. White, Buck White and Clinton White; and sister, Bessie Smith

Her beautiful and well lived life will forever be cherished in the lives of her three sons, Zernial (Miracle Alexander) Shackelford of Flint, MI, Calvin (Lynn) Shackelford of Montrose, Michigan, Alvin (Pamela) Shackelford of Burt, Michigan; one daughter, Juanita Shackelford of Saginaw, Michigan; three sisters, Scenella (White) Nelson of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, Pearl (White) Armstrong of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, Rouchelle (White) Jeffrey of Hazlehurst, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Ching Wang of Saginaw, Michigan; special nephews, Artis Shackelford of Flint, Michigan, Johnny Shackelford of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Marvin White of Hot Springs Arkansas; special daughters-in-law, Faye Shackelford of Davison, Marriette Dorsey, Michigan; special cousin, Bernice Newsom of Saginaw, Michigan; extended family, Joe and Dianna Gamino; a host of grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many loving, caring, beautiful and wonderful friends too numerous to list.
