Alonzo "Al" Johnson "Punt"

February 2, 1943 — March 30, 2018

Our beloved husband, and cherished father, Mr. Alonzo "Al" Johnson, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 at his residence at the age of 75 years. He was born on February 2, 1943 in Cottondale, Alabama to Theodore Roosevelt and Amanda Johnson, the seventh of seventeen children.

Mr. Alonzo Johnson, known as "Punt," was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan since 1965. He was a graduate of Boteler High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alonzo loved the Lord and accepted his calling at an early age. He preached at Benville Baptist Church in Cottondale, Alabama at the age of nine as “a seated Reverend.” He preached several years. Alonzo was a person of small stature, but he always had a big voice when it came to God. Alonzo was married thirty-eight years to Denice Donald. He was employed by General Motors (Saginaw Malleable Iron Foundry) in 1967, retiring in 1992 after twenty-five years of service. Alonzo was a member of UAW Local 455. He truly enjoyed fishing and gardening, being a jokester at times, and he was a great storyteller. Mr. Johnson also loved to cook. He will be missed by family and friends.

He leaves to cherish loving memories, and his legacy, his wife, Denice Johnson, Saginaw, Michigan; five daughters and three sons, Lenette Barnett, Charlotte, North Carolina, Decreshia (Napoleon) Sledge, Atlanta, Georgia, Delvin Donald, Alshaneek (Ivan) Wolfe, Derellia Donald, Alonzo (Cassandra) Donald, Emanuel (Ebony) Donald, LaDaisha Johnson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Addie Pearl Peterson, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Elnora Wood, Saginaw, Michigan, Carolyn (Roosevelt) Richardson, Moundville, Alabama, Gloria Dean (Bobby) Clark, Linden, Alabama, Sandra Bishop, Cottondale, Alabama; three brothers, Johnny Mac Johnson, Ruben (Yvonne) Johnson, Bedford Heights, Ohio, Terry (Maggie) Johnson, Cottondale, Alabama; many nieces and nephews; special nieces, Diane Bracey and Regina Wood; special nephew, Lonnie Wood; mother- in-law, Lettie Donald; three sisters-in-law, Marlo Donald, LaTosha Lawson, Tracy Breckenridge; brother-in-law, Vincent (Sabrina) Donald; many other relatives and friends; special friend, Andy Southern.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Amanda Johnson; sisters, Mozell Johnson, Ozie Johnson, Mary Ann Johnson and Helen Johnson Cawley; brothers, Houston, Franklin, Danny and Theodore Johnson, Jr.; father-in-law, Ted Donald; brothers-in-law, William Wood, David Donald and Eugene Donald.
