Anna L. Griffin, age 79, of Saginaw, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2014. She was born in Port Huron, Michigan on February 18, 1934 to Alfred and Irene Caldwell.
Anna began her walk with Christ at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Port Huron, where she served faithfully before uniting with Metropolitan Baptist Church, also in Port Huron. She had been employed as a manager by Michigan Bell (AT&T), the job that brought her to Saginaw, and as a receptionist 14 years at Garb-Ko Inc. Anna united with the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John B. Worthy, where she served in many capacities. She was Vice-President of the Mission Department for over 20 years, Sunday School teacher, musician, choir director, and youth advisor. She was a member of the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association and Wolverine State Baptist Convention Womans Auxiliary for many years. Anna was willing to work wherever her talents and skills were needed. Anna was an active member at New Life Christian Fellowship, under the leadership of Pastor Ken Cline. She was a Greeter, avid morning Bible Class participant, and Care Group contributor. Programs such as Celebrate Recovery were dear to her heart. She was a faithful servant.
Anna enjoyed sharing precious moments with her daughters, shopping, fine dining, beautifying her nails, teaching and spending time with children, and her greatest joy, serving the Lord and his people. She has asked that those who wish to remember her in a special way, please consider the Saginaw Rescue Mission, American Cancer Society and Eastside Soup Kitchen.
Anna desired to leave us with this prayer, Numbers 6: 24-26, which reads: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. She lived her life, she had her pain, and pleasure, and now she has her peace!
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Valerie J. Diggins of Midland, Michigan, Sally Lynne Harris, of Saginaw, Michigan; cousin, Stephanie (David) McCarthy of Detroit, Michigan; a host of other cousins and special close friends: Ethel Drain, Alice Robinson, Ruby Clark, Eva Diggins, Carol Romanow, Phyllis (Andrew) Passariello, Dorothy Adams, and Lori (Ron) Hayes; her little friends, Marquavia, Star and Unique Curry; special granddaughter, Jennifer Scott-Madison and great-grandson, Josiah Boo Smith; her friends at Garb-Ko and her church families who loved her very much.
Mrs. Griffin was predeceased by her mother and father. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial arrangements will be made at a later date.
Our family wishes to acknowledge, with deep appreciation, many acts of kindness: special thanks to Heartland Hospice; University of Michigan Medical Center; Covenant Healthcare; St. Marys Medical Center; Mr. Ivan Phillips and Mary McDonald of Paradise Funeral Chapel, and everyone who has offered prayer and condolences during our time of bereavement.
