Annie Archer passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare- Harrison. Age 68 years. Annie Ruth Archer was born on June 12, 1944 to Mamie King and the late Gurnie C. Doster Sr. in Ozark, AL.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and rededicated her life in her later years. The family relocated to Michigan, where she became a member of Candle Light Baptist Church. In 1997, Annie joined Measure of Faith Missionary Baptist Church as a charter member. She was faithful to her service as a member and an usher; and she was in church praising God, the Sunday before she went home to be with the Lord. Her Pastor, Rev. Charles Dallas, and his sister, Ms. Marva Barnett, were two of her favorite people.
Annie received her early education in the Michigan School System. She continued her education at the renowned Virginia Farrell School of Cosmetology in Detroit, Michigan and became a licensed cosmetologist.
In 1960, she married George R. Archer, Sr., and to this union, three children were raised: George Jr., Desiree and Beverly.
Annie was strikingly attractive and had gifted hands. She could do some hair. She owned and operated her own beauty salon which was quite successful. Her skills as a hair stylist were known across the city. People came from far and wide to her salon. At the time, she was the only stylist credited with knowing how to do both African American hair, and hair for people of non-color. She had customers of all backgrounds and hair textures. She loved her customers and she loved making them beautiful.
In addition to her love for cosmetology, Annie enjoyed watching television, roller skating, eating good food, traveling and spending time with her family.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her mother, Mamie King; three children, George Jr. (Rosetta), Desiree Coleman and Beverly Archer; five grandchildren, Taniesha (Daymon) Williams, April McIntyre, DeVante Archer, Jr., Aries Coleman and Chandler Archer; eight great grandchildren (one deceased); two sisters, Sherlene (Donald) Washington and Rosa (Scipio) Williams; one brother, Gurnie (Cynthia) Doster; one aunt, Thelma Lewis; two uncles, Cleveland Smith and Lt. Col. Calvin Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family members and friends. She will be missed, but never forgotten.
One of five siblings, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Marie Doster, in addition to her father and sister, she was also preceded in death by two aunts, Mary Lillie Baker and Annie Lipton; one uncle, Rufus Bryant; one nephew, Michael Doster; and one brother-in-law, Henton Jackson, Sr.
