Archie Floyd (Lansing)

May 10, 1957 — November 20, 2018

Mr. Archie Lee Floyd peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 61 years. He was born May 10, 1957 to Arthur and Ruby Floyd in Muskegon Heights, Michigan.

Archie attended school in the Muskegon Heights Public School District, graduating from Muskegon Heights High School. Shortly after graduating he relocated to Lansing, Michigan. Upon relocation to Lansing, he united with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed with Farm Bureau of Michigan from 1977 until his retirement in 2016. At the time of his retirement he was a lead computer operator.

Archie’s passion was inventing things. He was very smart, creative, and loved working with his hands. He would create an original design and build his own inventions. Archie designed and built a rocket that exploded releasing a parachute. Years ago, he was working on an invention that would have removed snow and ice from driveways, similar to the windshield magnetic ice removal cover you can find in stores today. It’s important to know that his snow removal design was before the magnetic windshield ice removal cover became introduced. So clearly, he was on to something. He was also an avid sports fan. He loved the Detroit Lions and University of Michigan Football.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Brandon Cotton-Floyd of Lansing, Michigan; daughter, Angelica Floyd of Lawrenceville, Georgia; eight step-children, Tiffany and Taylor Cotton, Scott and Josh Baker, Clayton, Quinton, Brandon and Calvin Walker; two grandchildren, Zoie Cotton-Floyd, Harmony Rene Floyd; one sister, Cheryl Pennington of Muskegon Heights, Michigan; three brothers, Mark Brown of Lansing, Michigan, Kevin Floyd, Jeffery Floyd both of Muskegon Heights, Michigan; loving fiance Rose Jackson; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Floyd.
