Arthur Couthen (Lansing)

Mr. Arthur Couthen “Sonny Boy” passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 89 years. He was born May 8, 1932, in Rembert, South Carolina, to parents, Dessie and Butler Couthen.

Arthur was raised in and attended Lee County Public Schools in Rembert, South Carolina. Upon moving to Lansing, Michigan, he worked for General Motors.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking, and playing scratch off tickets.

Arthur had a heart of gold. He loved everyone and never hesitated to help those in need. Arthur’s loving and caring nature will be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Lillian Couthen of Lansing, Michigan; sons, Arthur (Mable) Couthen, Alphonso (Tonia) Council, , Larry (Kim) Couthen, Greg Couthen, Carey Couthen, Steven (Ada) Couthen, Robert (Angela) Couthen; daughters, Dessie (Nene) Couthen, Diane Couthen, Michelle Couthen, and Elaine Couthen; step-children, Lonya Crockette and Ayten Crockette; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Bobbie Jean Green; brothers, Alexander (Valda) Cauther, Perry Ransom, John Couthen, John Williams, and James (Julia) Williams; and many other family members and friends, including many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Dessie and Butler Couthen; sister, Ollie Mae Couthen; and brothers, Henry Couthen, Ernest Keith, and James Lee Couthen.
