Aubrey "Sonny" Pruitt, Jr.

December 4, 1938 — July 26, 2021

Mr. Aubrey Pruitt, Jr. was born December 4, 1938 to Aubrey, Sr. and Emma (King) Pruitt in Birmingham, Alabama. He passed from this earthly life to join God and his Heavenly family on July 26, 2021at the age of 82.

“Sonny”, as he was known to his family and friends, attended Birmingham Public Schools. He began his working career at United Coal Mines in Birmingham. In 1956, he joined the United States Army where he served for three years and was honorably discharged. After serving in the military, he and his wife Louvoina relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. From that union, six sons were born. He and his second wife Tina shared a daughter.

Sonny was an independent semi-truck driver (“Big Rigs”) and retired after 33 years on the road. He shared his love of driving with Tina who was also a driver. He was a 33rd Degree Mason (Supreme Honor). Sonny loved his grandchildren and riding motorcycles and they had to be Harley-Davidson. He got his first Harley at a very young age.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Sherry (Donald) Pruitt, Birmingham, Alabama, Aubrina (Quantayveon) Johnson, Holland, Michigan; seven sons, Michael Pruitt, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Aubrey III (Marsha), Dexter (Debra), Anthony (Patricia), Calvin (Cheryl) Pruitt, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Andre (Jill) Pruitt, Detroit, Michigan, Jamarr (Lana) Pruitt, Birmingham, Alabama; 40 grandchildren and a special granddaughter, Ashley Pruitt, who he raised as his own and was his caregiver; 72 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa Pruitt Horrison and Barbara Kennedy, both of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters-in-laws, Mammie Kidd, Saginaw, Michigan, Louvenia (Roosevelt) Pickett, Detroit, Michigan; ten nieces; thirteen nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will miss his presence.

Sonny was preceded in death by his two wives, Louvoina and Tina; parents, Aubrey Sr. and Emma Pruitt; grandparents, Emmitt and Alexzana Pruitt, Benny and Maude King; grandson, Anthony Cannon; three brothers, Walter Hargrove, Jr., Bennie Pruitt, Sr. and James Williams; four sisters-in-law, Millie Hargrove, Ida Grace Pruitt, Mildred Jones and Quentella Worthington; two brothers-in-law, Leo Kennedy and John Horrison; 19 uncles; 13 aunts; niece, Brenda Moore; nephew, Emil Pruitt; special cousin, Arelia Taylor; and special friends Allen Pruitt and Daniel Palmore.
