Aurscant "Chico" Hughey, Jr.

Mr. Aurscant "Chico” Hughey, Jr. passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital. Age 68 years. He was born on January 20, 1953, in Saginaw, Michigan to Aurscant Hughey, Sr., and Helen R. Foster Hughey.

Chico was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. His early education was obtained in the Saginaw Public School District. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. New Birth Baptist Cathedral was frequently his place of worship. Chico later attended Everest University where he received an Associate Degree in Paralegal, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He also obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Support and Services from Purdue University. Chico was a member of Moorish Science Temple of America where he was known as Aurscant Hughey Chico Bey.

Chico’s hobbies included spending time at the YMCA, traveling, reading, and spending time with his siblings and friends. Chico truly enjoyed time spent with family, especially his uncle and aunt, Mr. Leonard and the late Mrs. Jacqueline Porterfield. He was a personal caregiver for his uncle for many years.

He leaves to cherish loving memories one sister, Dawn Hughey; two brothers, James and LaVan Hughey; uncle and aunt, Leonard (Georgia D. Manzie) Porterfield; nieces, Shawnae Hughey, Jameshia Dorsey; great-niece, Danae Hughey; nephew, Dawaun Hughey; great-nephew, TyJuan Hughey; best friend, Lonzo Bowman el.

Chico was preceded in death by his parents, Aurscant Sr. (Helen) Hughey; sisters, Jackie Hughey Mounger and Dawnae E. Hughey.
