Barbara Brown

April 7, 1934 — March 15, 2014

Our Lord and Savior has again kept his promise. On the evening of March 15, 2014 Barbara Jean (Hill) Brown was carried home to be comforted in the everlasting arms of her mother and her Savior. Barbara was born on April 7, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ester and Lee Hill. She was the last of 10 children. She enjoyed her childhood in Kansas City until the age of seventeen. She then moved to Saginaw, Michigan and completed high-school where she met her husband of 61 years, David Melvin Brown. From this union seven children were born. Barbara later attended and was employed by the Saginaw Business Institute. She was the first African American woman to be employed by the Social Security Administration in Saginaw Michigan. She later retired from General Motors after 18 years of service. Barbara was a great singer, wonderful cook, an outdoors person and a proud parent. She enjoyed watching her children compete and perform in sports and school activities. Barbara also enjoyed traveling to family events. Barbara was a devoted Christian. She was a member of Greater Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Saginaw, Michigan under the leadership of Bishop Herbert J. Williams.
Barb leaves behind many who will cherish the memory of her life. They include daughters, Faith Davette Lupoe, Tanya Feltson, Toiia (Mbengo) Rukuni, Tyya Brown; sons, Michael (Portia) Brown and Monty Brown; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; Barb also leaves two dear brothers, Robert and Sterling Hill and two loving sisters, Geraldine Anderson and Hattie Meadows. She also leaves many dear relatives, friends and associates. Others not mentioned are dearly loved, appreciated and not forgotten.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Lee Hill, husband, David M. Brown, son, Marvin V. C. Brown, grandson, Donte Brown and great-grandson, Jeremiah. Her gift to her children was blessed intellect and the creative stroke of a pen. May we pass on that which we have been given.
