Barbara Cheryl Flournoy-Heard

May 15, 1959 — August 27, 2023

Mrs. Barbara Cheryl Flournoy-Heard was born in Jackson, Tennessee, to James Marvin Walker and Peggy Jean Flournoy, on May 15, 1959. Barbara was raised from infancy by her grandparents.

Barbara moved with her grandparents to Saginaw in 1974 where she completed her education. After her health failed, Barbara retired from ISD as a Special Aide Bus Assistant.

Barbara had a heart of gold and would do anything she possibly could for others. Many times, she would go without in order to help someone else. Barbara loved her immediate and extended family unconditionally. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and spending time with family and friends. She also loved her church family at First Baptist of Bridgeport, Michigan, where she and her husband were faithful members.

On Sunday night, August 27, 2023, Barbara ascended peacefully as God exercised his sovereignty as the giver and receiver of life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 15 years, Jimmy Heard; two stepsons, Calvin Heard, Washington, DC, and James Heard, Starkville, Mississippi; four uncles, Reverend Lawrence Lanier, Jackson, Tennessee, J. Herbert Flournoy, Athen (Margery) Flournoy, and Preston (Gloria) Mason, all of Saginaw, Michigan; five aunts, Mary Flournoy, Juanita Triggs, both of Chicago, Illinois, and Lizzie Joplin, Grand Rapids, Michigan; special first cousins, Reasia, Anthony, Stella, Sheila, Lesley, Carletha, Trina, Wayne, Tasha, Makesha, Laurice, Elder DeRhonda, and Candace; additionally, Barbara leaves to mourn her passing nieces, Mary Washington, Wanda Washington, Kim Wells, Lois Parker, Regina Cooper, and special niece, Sharon Cooper; one nephew, Ronnie Cooper; three sisters-in-law, Ola Bowdry, Josephine Kincaid, and Mary Johnson; four brothers-in-law, Johnny (Anna) Heard, Eddie (Regina) Heard, Tommy (Peggy) Heard, and Willie J. (Gloria) Heard; special friends, Atlanta Thompson, Tasha Thomas, and Dale Wells; many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Peggy G. Flournoy-Cooper, and James Marvin Walker; grandparents, Lillie Flournoy-Watson, J.D. Watson, and Oliver J. Flournoy; aunts, Rosette Larry, Annie Bell Flournoy, and Anna Mae Flournoy; uncles, Reverend H.H.
