Barbara Jean Jackson

April 14, 1949 — June 19, 2023

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and First Lady, Mrs. Barbara Jean Jackson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 19, 2023. She was born on April 14, 1949, to the late Louis and Bernice Legard in Hammond, Louisiana.


Mrs. Jackson was a resident of Bridgeport, Michigan. She was a graduate of Greenville Park High School, Class of ’67. Barbara married Johnny Jackson II, on January 26, 1969, in Hammond, Louisiana. They moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1972. Barbara completed cosmetology school and enjoyed being a hairstylist. She and Johnny united with Candlelight Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, participated in Bible Study, was a member of the gospel choir, and director of the children’s choir. Barbara also sang with the gospel group, Eternal Four.


Johnny became pastor of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church and Barbara stood beside him faithfully as First Lady. She enjoyed date nights, traveling, bike riding, and family gatherings. Barbara loved caring for and supporting her family. She was a great listener, and she gave great advice. Barbara had a great sense of humor and a big loving heart. She treated everyone as family.


She leaves to cherish 54 years of wonderful memories her loving husband, Pastor Johnny Jackson; children: Johnny (Antoinette) Jackson, Stephen (Sherri) Hampton, Cheyenne Jackson, Mark “Jeep” (Jackie) Hampton, Hope Jackson (Quentine), Daniel (Skyy) Jackson; grandchildren: Deosha Watson, Cedric “Icey” Banks, Akeem Banks, Johnny Jackson IV, Larissa Hampton, Jasmine Jackson, Tiana Hampton, Jared Jackson, Makayla Jackson, Bri’Asja Carter, and Quentine Carter II; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Sharon Legard Torrence of Hammond, Louisiana, Linda Legard and Shelia Henderson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Joseph and Abraham Legard of Hammond, Louisiana, Windon (Alice) Legard of Kentwood, Louisiana, Anthony D. Legard and Carl Legard of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives: a very special niece, Ann Wells, and friends, Inell Jackson and Alice McCaskey.


Mrs. Jackson was predeceased by her parents; sisters and brothers: Rosemary Legard Pennington, Josephine Legard Pennington, Ruby Legard, Dorothy Legard Ricks, Louis Legard Jr., Adolph Legard, and C.B. Butler.
