Mr. Basil Eugene Johnson passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his residence. Age 87 years. He was born May 16, 1927 in Burton Township, Michigan to Verna Bell and Lewis Johnson.
Basil was a resident of Bridgeport, Michigan. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy after serving his country during World War II. Basil was employed with McDonald Dairies in Flint, Michigan until 1958 when he relocated to Saginaw, Michigan to start his own business. He worked in the milk and ice cream industry until his retirement in 2007. Basil was married for 57 years to his beloved wife Mary Lou. She preceded him in death October 2003. Basil had achieved the level of 32nd degree Master Mason. He was an avid sports fan who loved college basketball. Basil was a great man who loved his family. His presence will be truly missed.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory one daughter, Judy (Dale) Morin of Spring Lake, Michigan; one son, John Johnson of Bridgeport, Michigan; four grandchildren, Dr. Brian (Elizabeth) Dawson of Grayling, Michigan, Heather (Arica) Dawson of Holly, Michigan, Shelby (Michael) Weigandt of Macomb County, Michigan and Tyler (Alicia) Johnson of Lapeer, Michigan; five great-grandchildren, Molly Weigandt, Rivyn Scofield, Charlotte Weigandt, Vivienne Dawson and Tristen Johnson; one brother, Walter Johnson of Flint, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Stella Johnson, Doris Johnson and Sammie Richardson; one brother-in-law, Gary Richardson; many other relatives and friends.
Basil was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Johnson, parents, Verna Bell and Lewis Johnson, six brothers, four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
The family wishes to express special thanks to everyone who offered words of encouragement and condolences.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
