Mr. Benjamin Edward Broxton “Benny” was born November 1, 1947 in Enterprise, Alabama, the son of Edward Broxton and Morine Langston. He passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the age of 72 years.
In 1949, the Broxton family moved to Saginaw, Michigan where Benny attended Lansing School for the Hearing Impaired. He played basketball and graduated top of his class. Benny wouldn’t allow anything to stop him from reaching his goals in life and he worked hard at everything he did. In 1975 he moved to Newark, New Jersey, where his brother Willie had moved. In 1977, he met the love of his life, Darlene Johnson, and in 1979 they had one son.
Benny was a man that believed in taking care of others before himself, so in 1979 in Newark, New Jersey, Benny Edward Broxton opened the first night club for the hearing impaired. The club housed six eight-foot speakers that vibrated the floor so they could feel the music through vibration and party all night long.
Benny moved back to Saginaw after becoming ill, but he didn’t allow his illness to stop him from doing what he needed to do. He would go wherever he needed to be and was always on time. The one thing that would make Benny mad was if you made him late for appointments or changed the time, even if he knew about it a week in advance. Just ask the workers at Fresenius Dialysis Center, STARS and his little brother Corey. Benny will truly be missed, and his presence will never be forgotten.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Morine Broxton’ brothers, Willie and Tyrone Broxton; nephews, Corey Broxton Jr. and Tyrone Broxton Jr.
He leaves precious memories with his son, RaSheen (Lisa) Johnson, Richmond, Virginia; granddaughters, Sieria and Rockelle Johnson, both of Richmond, Virginia; sisters, Patrice Broxton “Michelle”, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pearline McCloud, Utica, New York, Dr. Barbara Layton, Sweet Port, Louisiana, Valerie Robinson, Detroit, Michigan, Ethia Riley, Daleville, Alabama; brothers, Rodney Broxton, Enterprise, Alabama, Keith Broxton, Newark, New Jersey, Elder Corey Broxton Sr., Saginaw, Michigan, Murmon Ware “Ben”, Enterprise, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Teretha Broxton, Panama City, Florida, Dr. Shawn Smith Broxton-Baker, Lumberton, North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
