Bennie Charles Griffin

September 5, 1940 — April 19, 2024

Our beloved, Husband, Father, and Grandfather, Bennie C. Griffin also known as “GG,” “Griff,” or “Daddy,” passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 83 years. He was born on September 5, 1940, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, James and Frances Griffin.


In 1964, Bennie relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, where in 1984, he met Rae, the love of his life. Bennie was employed at Saginaw Metal Casting (Gray Iron) for 26 years before retiring in 1990. In 1995, our Daddy met his best friend, TaeTae, and they were inseparable. TaeTae became the backseat rider when Daddy and MoMo cruised down I-75 south. Bennie was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed sitting outside on the porch, bowling, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.


Precious memories of Griff will forever be cherished and honored by Rae, his devoted wife of 40 years; sons, Maurice Griffin, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Billy (Christine) McLaren, Saginaw, Michigan, Robert (Amanda) McLaren, Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughters, Meshon Griffin, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Alicia McLaren, Jacquelyn (Brian) Patrick, Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, TaeVion “TaeTae,” Teyonna “Nona,” Taniyah “Moma,” Eric, Breonna “Michigan Midget”, Destiny “YumYum,” Herlinda, Mariah, Christopher “Cree,” Jeremy “Lil Man” Carmelo “Mel,” Rihanna “Tootsie,” and Robert Jr. “Buddy”; great-grandchildren, TaeVion Jr. (TJ), Jayce (Jay), Tae’lor, Talayah “Lil Moma,” Kaycen “K-Man,” Armond “Ace,” D’Varea “MonkMonk,” Heaven, Adrianne and Carter; sisters, Sherry, Mary (Michael); brothers, Daniel, Charles (Margret) Patilla; mother-in-law, Ruth Douglas; sister-in-law, Penny (Kami) Maxwell; brothers-in-law, William, Steve, and Daniel McLaren; goddaughter, Nyeisha Dawkins; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends including special friends, Ira Jackson, Bobby Lowrey, and The Beechwood Family. He was loved by so many wonderful people, too numerous to list.


Griff was preceded in death by his parents, James, and Frances Griffin; father-in-law, Allen Douglas; brothers, James Jr. and Marvin Griffin, and sister, Sara Payton.


The family would like to express special thanks to the Doctors and Staff of Ascension St. Mary’s, Pastor Cedric Nickson, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
