Mrs. Bernice “Bea” Blount made her transition to her Lord and Savior on September 6, 2019, with her loving daughter by her side at Hospice of Lansing - Stoneleigh Residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 77 years. Our beloved mother, grandmother wife, sister, aunt and friend, Bernice was born on April 30, 1942 in Demopolis, Alabama to her parents the late Jessie and Susie Winston. She was the second eldest of 6 children.
Bea, as she was so lovingly nicknamed, and her sister Dell ran a local fish market on Logan Street for many years before they closed. She was so loved at the fish market that a group of drug users got together one year and bought her a beautiful gift to show their appreciation for her humane treatment to them. Bea also was a diligent hard worker for the Lansing Center for many years before landing a job at the Lansing Mall where she cleaned with cheer and excellence before she retired in 2009. If you wonder why that gorgeous smile and those pearly whites look so familiar, you probably saw her at the Lansing Mall. Bea was a very vivacious and unique woman who had unconditional love for everyone. She never met a stranger. Bea was a fun-loving person who had a very outgoing magnetic personality her laugh was contagious and she didn’t mind sharing it with you. Bea said what she meant and meant what she said because she knew who she was. Bernice was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist church where she sang in the choir for several years and she absolutely loved attending Sunday School class. Bernice was a delegate for the National Baptist Sunday School Congress under the leadership of the late Reverend Charles S. Tolbert. Bernice united in marriage to her high school sweet heart John Blount in 1998 they spent 21 beautiful years together.
Bernice leaves to carry her legacy, husband, John Blount; daughter, Jessie (Markus) Allen; granddaughters, Yukialove Winston, whom she affectionately called “Baby Love”; Tara Chastine and grandson, Christopher Chastine; and one 6’2” legacy, her great grandson, Jacob Smith; she cherished and adored her sisters, Elnora Johnson, Jessie Mae Pearson, Louise Miller, and Gloria (Johnny) Jordan; and a tribe of nieces and nephews. Bea will be greatly missed by her step daughter, Linda Williams. To the seeds of Bea’s sisters and her brother: “be strong and of and of good courage; your Auntie Bea is free, she cannot return to you again but you can come to her by way of Christ Jesus.” Pauline, Cooke, RIP Gala, Tina, Lawrence, Darrell, Rico, Keita, Essex, Sh’mone, Nikkia Tika, Vanisha, Dempsey and Rashad.
