Bernice Morris

On Sunday, February 24th, 2019 Mrs. Bernice Morris gained her golden wings. She passed away peacefully at her residence in Columbus, Ohio. She was 86 years old, born December 28th, 1932 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Eddie Lee Richardson and Marvin Kennybrew.

Bernice was a long-time resident of Saginaw, Michigan and was a faithful member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church under the leadership of both Father Boli and Rev. Judy Boli. She retired from General Motors Corporation after 37 1/2 years of employment.

While living in Saginaw, Bernice loved spending time with her best friend, Mrs. Ellen Williams, shopping and enjoying coffee and doughnuts at Tim Horton's. She loved playing Bingo and would occasionally go to the casino. She was famous for her homemade cakes and dinner rolls and would light up when she'd hear Dottie Peoples' "On Time God." While living in Columbus, Ohio, Bernice enjoyed spending time at the National Church Residences Senior Center.

Bernice never met a stranger. She'd humbly help anyone in need. She had a loving and infectious smile and personality that made everyone around her feel loved. Her humming and singing when you walked through the door would always let you know that you were welcomed.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Edward Morris; mother, Eddie Lee Richardson and father, Marvin Kennybrew; six children, JoAnn Washington, Leatrice Martin, Ray Washington, LaWanda Jones, MaDonna Morris, Vercie Mae Burks; two brothers, Clarence D. Rice, Marvin Kennybrew Jr.; sisters, Leatrice Rice, Marvine Lagman; one uncle, Dan Richardson; life-long friends, Mr. Ernest Pope and Mrs. Lou Bertha Washington.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Derrick and Vance Dell Morris; son-in-law, Cleveland "Tokey" Burks; very special granddaughter Demruse (Williams) Phillips; special grandson, Derryl (Monica) Martin; a host of grandchildren including Eric, Jonathan (Fonda), Vance (Tracy) Martin, Sophronia (Charles) Sparks, Arnell Johnson, Ray,and Jahmel Washington, Tamara Palomino, Kaneadsha and Tiffany Jones, Derrick, Demarcus, Darius (Portia) and Issac Morris, Carron Riley, Ivory Price, Keith Brookins, Lamar (Cynthia) Davis, Markasha (Jules) Moton, Deon Bryant, Torianna Barkley, Candiance Russell, Sparkle (Miracle, Rae'Niyah Davis, Demruse Burks; two loving and caring great-grandchildren Damarcus Phillips, TaNiya Hayes; special niece and nephew, Leza and Troy Rice; cousins, Rev. Charles (Christine) Kennybrew; a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.

A very big "Thank You" to Sparkle Davis for taking care of our grandmother while in Saginaw, with such love, care and concern.
