Bertha Fabin

February 24, 1966 — March 21, 2022

Bertha Deloris Butler-Fabin gained her heavenly wings and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21st, 2022, at The University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was 56 years old. She was born on February 24th,1966 in Saginaw, Michigan to Lula & Ralph Butler Sr.

Bertha was a proud graduate of Saginaw High School class of 1984. She went on to earn an associate’s degree from Delta College, a bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University, and a master’s degree from Michigan State University in Social Work. She joined Don Fabin in holy matrimony on November 23rd, 1990.

Bertha was employed at the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Michigan. In her 30 years of social work, her most recent role was a supervisor of Foster Care and Child Protective Services. Bertha was a Queen and a Jack of all trades. She had many talents and skills; if you know, you know. Above all, she had a lifelong love for sewing and created countless items of love for her family and friends. Bertha enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading, cooking, crafting, relaxing at Michigan’s finest casinos, and spending quality time with her boys, husband, sister, nieces, nephews, and her grandbaby.

Bertha was initiated into the Saginaw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on April 13
th, 2006. She was the Quad of the Unpredictable IX. Her line name was “Boomerang”, and she fully embodied it because she would come right back at you. She was a faithful member of the sorority and was a sister that could always be counted on. During her time in the chapter, she served as the 2nd Vice President, a Delta GEM advisor, Internal Audit Chair, a member of the Social Action Committee, and a member of the Scholarship Committee. Bertha loved her DST!

Bertha was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Delwin Tatum, Sr. She is well known for her giving heart, as she had a great passion for helping others by any means necessary. Bertha was dedicated to whatever cause that she could contribute to. She would always go above and beyond. She loved to support anyone and everything she could. Showing love and resilience was in the very core of her being. She loved her community, and her community loved her. Her presence will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Bertha leaves to carry on her loving spirit her husband Don Fabin of 32 years; three sons, Marcus Baker, of Seattle Washington, Justin and Javon Fabin, of Saginaw Michigan, one sister, Belinda (Brian) Johnson, one brother, Ralph Butler Jr., sister-in-law Jean (Dennis) Wajer; seven nieces LaToria Butler, LaKendra Butler, Leah Butler, Alex Butler, Krystal Buckler, Trisha Knowlton, and Dre’A Butler; eight nephews Terry & Cedrick Almond, Simmie Green Jr., Brandon Johnson, William & Kelvin Butler, Kevin Knowlton, and Torion Porter; special grand daughter, Catalaya Lee; Special sister, Mary (Les) Addison; Special cousin, Dr. Linda Logan, Special friends, Tierra Thomas and Yvonne Ford; God Daughters, LaTasha Potter, Danyelle Calhoun, and Honey Green; God Son, Ramon Colon. Also, a host of other special cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

Bertha was preceded in death by her father Ralph Butler Sr., mother Lula Butler, mother-in-law, Alice Kingsland; three sisters, Vanessa Baston, Claretha Butler, and Willie Mae Green.
