Bette M. Hood passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2018 in Sterling Heights, Michigan surrounded by her family. She was born April 5, 1942 to the late Rev. Samuel M. and C. Beatrice Taylor. She married Christopher Hood on April 17, 1971, to which one daughter was born.
Upon graduating from Saginaw High School in 1960, she attended nursing school and graduated pursuing a career at Saginaw General Hospital (now Covenant Cooper) for several years. She was later employed by General Motors in personnel as an Insurance Representative and retired as a Visitor Clearance Receptionist from Delphi after a total of thirty years of service.
Bette was a very faithful and dedicated member of St. Luke C.M.E. Church for over fifty years. She served on the Trustee Board and as Secretary of the Steward Board, choir member, church decorator and craft director for vacation bible school. She was also one of the Chairpersons for The States Rally, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Over the years she dedicated many hours as a tutor, substitute teacher for the Saginaw School System and a hospital volunteer. She was a very giving person and loved her family dearly. Bette was a very detailed person dotting every “i” and crossing every “t”. Her hobbies were reading, traveling, listening to quality music and shopping, especially for hats.
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Leslie B. (Willie) Henton, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Krsytal Austin, Sterling Heights, Michigan; one son, Marcus D. (Lynn) Taylor, Lansing, Michigan; stepdaughter, Jackie Flint, Louisville, Kentucky; five sisters, Shirley M. Robinson, Carol Stitt, Conyers, Georgia, Sharon M. Taylor-Foster, Knightdale, North Carolina, Susan M. (Julius) Lee, Lathonia, Georgia, Barbara L. Coney, Bridgeport, Michigan; three brothers, Samuel M. (Essie) Taylor, Slidell, Louisiana, William D. Taylor, Cummings, Georgia, Steven M. (Tammy) Taylor, Saginaw, Michigan; six grandchildren, Ebony (Bobby) Connerly, Amber Jackson, Leslie and Douglas Westbrook, Kahya Austin, Stacey Olmsted; special nieces, Kelly Faridi, Ashleigh Foster, Monique Conway; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friend Tommy Allen, dear friend Faye Henry and best friend Annie Dugan.
Bette was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Michiel L. Taylor, Shauntel M. Taylor-Erramelli, Robert Michael and Charles M. Taylor.
