Mother Beulah L. Smith passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Marys of Michigan. Age 88 years. She was born in Pope Mississippi on September 23, 1922, the second child of Hezzie and Ida Pearl Thomas-Lloyd.
She developed a love for Christ at the age of seven and joined the Olive Ray Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized and became a devoted servant of the Lord. Mother Smith married Fred Smith and joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church to serve with her husband and to this union seven children whom she adored were born.
She attended Russ College and Mississippi School of the Culinary Arts where she received her licenses as a certified dietician for the state of Mississippi. She also served on the board of the American Cancer Society for the county of Panola in the state of Mississippi.
After the passing of her husband, she joined the Holly Grove Missionary Church in Crenshaw, MS serving under the leadership of Rev. Jessie J. Joshell. She served on the Mothers Board, Usher Board, Board of Trustees for the Jones Memorial Daycare Center and was a supervisor for Erwin Shirt Company in Sardis, MS.
In 1998 she moved to Saginaw, MI where she united with the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.D. Hankins and faithfully served on the Mothers Board and Sunday School department until God called her home.
She leaves to celebrate her home going four sons, Willie R. Smith, Larry E. Smith of Saginaw, MI, Lloyd Smith, Clinton (Delores) Smith of Memphis TN; three daughters, Freddie (Dean) Simpson, Lavon (Bonnie) Wilson of Memphis TN, Shirley (Derrick) Presley of Saginaw, MI; two sisters, Callie Love of Detroit, MI, Nyanthia (Chris) Townsend of Batesville, MS, her step mother, Katherine Lloyd of Batesville, MS;
brother-in-law, Terry Love Sr. of Detroit, MI; twenty four grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one adopted daughter, Marian Kirby; one play brother, James Elion.
