Life Reflections

Mr. Billy Roderick “Rod” Balls was born March 25, 1963 in Saginaw Michigan, the youngest child to Burnest and Georgia Mae Vaughn-Balls. On Tuesday August 3rd 2021 at the age of 58 years Rod gently closed his eyes and surrendered, he took flight with the angels and left it all behind. “Going Home”, Destination: HEAVEN to my Father’s house.
Rod attended Elementary Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School Class of 1981. He worked for the SPS transportation department, Art Van Furniture Store and later for Nexteer Automotive. He was a member of Messiah MBC of Saginaw, MI.

Rod was a funny character always keeping you laughing. He was a devoted Dad to his two daughters. He loved his family. With no formal training He was extremely talented “a self-made carpenter remodeling handy man”, he could tear down and build up. Give him your designs or thoughts of what you wanted and he would make it happen. His hobbies included but were not limited to working on cars, attending car shows, building go carts for his daughter to tool around in, complete with a radio and speakers (it was probably more for himself). He also, enjoyed racing his remote-control cars and flying his drones. He was a MacGyver of sort, truly a gadget man the more gadgets the better.

He leaves a lasting legacy and beautiful memories with his two lovely daughters, Rod’Reona Lowe and Jasmine Balls, both of Saginaw, Michigan; four brothers, Mayor Pro-Tem Michael (Lois) Balls, Deacon Dennis (Patricia) Balls, Anthony Balls (Janice McGee) and Freddie Wilson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; three Sisters, Karen Balls- Sweeney, Denise Steele, Saginaw, Michigan, and Donnadeleak (Daryl) Bishop-Hall, Redford, Michigan; uncle, Lenyon (Claudia) Vaughn, Flower Mound, Texas; aunts, Myrtle Vaughn, Tacoma, Washington, Pashion Vaughn-Hall and Sally Vaughn, both of Saginaw, Michigan; many nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nieces and great nephews that loved him dearly; a very special family that he loved as his own, Jimmy and Bernice Moore of Saginaw, Michigan; special friend, Janice Hulettwicker, Bay City, Michigan and very special friend Robin Garrett, Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Billy Roderick “Rod” Balls was preceded in death by his parents, Burnest and Georgia Mae Vaughn-Balls; grandparents, George and Jessie Vaughn; uncles, Richard and Tommy Vaughn; a host of cousins and friends.
