Booker T Simmons, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side at the age of 70 years. He was born on June 21, 1951, to Booker Thomas, Sr. and Lossie Simmons in Muskegon, Michigan.
Booker received his formal education from Muskegon High School and later received a bachelor’s degree in communication from Western Michigan University. There he met the love of his life Debra Hill. Booker T and Debra married on June 19, 1982, and to this union, three children were born. The family settled in Lansing, Michigan where Booker worked for the State of Michigan Housing Authority until he retired in 2012. Throughout the years, the family loved to travel and enjoyed backyard BBQs together.
Booker T was a prime example of how God our Father wants us to love one another. He was a member of the Lansing Church of God in Christ and frequently enjoyed a little Christian rivalry with members of the congregation over his favorite sports teams.
Booker T was a loving, caring, and supportive husband and father. He was an adored son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend who would literally give the shirt off his back. Booker T had a great sense of humor and love to have fun, but he also was a no-nonsense person. He was an avid poker player with a love for basketball and could often be seen cheering for his beloved Wolverines. Booker T’s heart was BIG and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Booker T leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 39 years, Debra Simmons of Lansing, Michigan; three children, Jermaine (Darla) Hill of South Euclid, Ohio, Nichelle Robertson and Andre Simmons both of Lansing, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Trichelle Penegar, Shayla Rush, Tyrice Johnson, Jene Hill, Ayana Simmons, Arianna Simmons, Jermaine Hill Jr, Nyla Hill, Dreya Simmons, Aundrea Simmons, and Andre Simmons Jr.; and one great-grandson, Keith Sanders III; sister, Velma Simmons of Stockton, California; brothers, Stan (Natalie) Simmons of Tucson, Arizona, Dwight (Sharon) Simmons of Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Gregory Simmons of Muskegon, Michigan; his gentle manner and warm smile will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, co-workers, and community members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vestoria Jackson; and brother, Michael Simmons.
