Brianna Sawyer (Lansing, Mi-Chicago, Il)

Ms. Brianna Sharie VanHorn-Sawyer left us on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan after a brave battle with Cardiomyopathy at age of 19 years old. She was born Monday, November 18, 2002, in Lansing, Michigan to Falisha Denise VanHorn and Tony Lamar Morgan.

Brianna, at the age of 5 years old moved to Chicago, Illinois with Charles and Mary Sawyer, her newly adopted parents. Brianna graduated from Niles North High School in May 2022. She as well as her family and friends were so proud of her accomplishment. Brianna was baptized on January 4, 2015, at Vernon Park Church of God Chicago, Illinois, under the leadership of Reverend Jerald January, Sr., Senior Pastor. Brianna was a very determined and candid young lady. She loved music, shopping, movies, dancing and just being girly. She had a very tough exterior, however; she had a big heart. She loved her family and her friends. Brianna was very aware of the Cardiomyopathy she had and asked many questions about how and why it affected her so much. After graduating high school, Brianna moved back to Lansing, Michigan to live with her birth mother Falisha; not knowing that she would be receiving her last hugs, last laughs, and fulfilling her personal life’s happiness. 

Brianna leaves to cherish her precious memories, mother, Falisha VanHorn of Lansing, Michigan; Adoptive Parents, Charles and Mary Sawyer of Chicago, Illinois; siblings, Cameron and Daria Sawyer of Chicago, Illinois; Destiny Powell & Zaiden VanHorn of Lansing, Michigan, and Gabrielle Cooper of Williamston, Michigan; grandparents, Hope VanHorn of Las Vegas, Nevada; Tony and Yvette Morgan of Lansing, Michigan; godparents, Nicole Leggions and Julius Smith. She also leaves many other aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly. 

Brianna was preceded in death by her father, Tony L. Morgan; grandmother, Virginia Collins; grandfather, Fred Greer; four uncles, and one aunt.
