Callie Hoard (Lansing)

Mrs. Callie B. Blocker-Hoard passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, at Sparrow Health Systems Hospital. Age 83 years. She was born January 1, 1938, in Clarksdale, Arkansas to parents, Otho Blocker, Sr. and Wilma Peeler.

Callie graduated from Alternative Education in Blytheville, Arkansas. From there she started her journey to Lansing, Michigan, where Callie attended Lansing Community College and obtained her seamstress certificate. Later, she worked for General Motors as Head Cook until she retired in 1993.

She was known for her love of cooking and caring for family and friends. Callie made her amazing caramel cake with love that you could almost feel. She could sew like nobody’s business and could produce lovely clothes, hats and quilts.

Callie was the cook, the hostess, the comforter, and the keeper of all the mysterious secrets for how to do just about everything and we miss her for all these things and more.

She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Keith Hoard and Lamar Hoard of Phenix City, Alabama, Lamont Hoard of Birmingham, Alabama, Duane Hoard and Tony Hoard of Lansing, Michigan; daughters, Emma (Larry) Cunningham of Flint, Michigan and Kierra (Rory) Hoard-Ellington of Lansing, Michigan; step-son, Joe (Lois) Davis; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 32 great -great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Webb-Valley of Carbondale, Illinois and Lula Haywood of Pulaski, Illinois; brother, Fred (Beulah) Blocker of Lansing, Michigan; and many other relatives and friends including special friend, Allen Childress.

Callie was preceded in death by loving husband, Slyvester Hoard; mother, Wilma Peeler, father, Otho Blocker, Sr.; brothers, Charlie and William Washington, Ortho Blocker, Jr., and Taylor Blocker, Sr.; sisters, Ellen Anthony and Dortha Valley; children, Willie Fletcher, Samuel Blocker, Jr., and Slyvia Hoard; and grandchildren, Curtis Wade, Jr. and Kahlil Hoard.
