Carl Franklin

November 26, 1971 — April 9, 2021

Carl Anthony Franklin was born November 26, 1971 in Saginaw, Michigan to Reginal and Thelma Franklin.

He accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Buena Vista and Saginaw Public Schools. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, “Class of 1990”, where he was an outstanding basketball player.

Carl joined the United States Marines after high school, and served from November 1990 until July 1995. He continued his love for basketball while in the Marines, playing for a traveling team. Carl worked various jobs over his lifetime before starting at Nexteer in 2006. He was a dedicated and hard worker, on and off the job.

Carl was very meticulous about his lawn and garden. Intelligent, independent, dependable, and strong will only scratch the surface of who Carl really was. He was a family man who adored his wife and son. He loved and respected his mother and father, and cherished his siblings. That was the core of Carl Anthony Franklin. He was kind, loving, forgiving, thoughtful and fun. He loved being around his family and friends, telling jokes and making everyone around him smile and laugh.

Some of Carl’s favorite activities included barbecuing and cooking breakfast for his family. He made the best omelettes. He enjoyed riding his motocycle in his spare time but his greatest joy was watching, talking, and coaching his son Carmello in basketball and football.

On Friday, April 9, Carl joined his grandparents, Will O. Franklin, Robert Sr. and Annie Reed; great-grandparents, Walter and Annie Taylor, Adella Lanton; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and man’s best friend, his dog, Mystical, who all preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of twenty years, Nina Franklin; son, Carmello Franklin; parents, Reginal and Thelma Franklin; sister, Latoya Franklin; brother, Kemann Tery; grandmother, Elizabeth Franklin; nephews, Don’Quavis Gipson, Teman’Dre Farrell; uncles, Anthony (Carrie Mae) Reed, Patrick Reed, Michael Franklin, Kenneth (Carlos) Franklin; aunts, Rosie and Michelle Reed; mother-in-law, Shirley (Nesby) Garrett; father-in-law, Mitchel (Tracey) Savage; sister-in-law Shante Foster; brother-in-law, Jerome Savage; special cousin, Alfred Reed; many cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends Cedrick Brown, Derrick Campbell, Tony Davis, Darrell Harris, Anthony Jones, Corey Jones, Dwarne McNair, Louis Mitchell and Hiram Sanders.
