Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Mr. Carl Harris went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 30, 2012. Age 79 years. He was born May 13, 1933 in Colombia, Alabama to Gertrude and Roosevelt Goddard Harris.
Carl was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. During his term, he received two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal. Carl met his dreamgirl Marilyn Favorite on May 13, 2004. They were united in holy matrimony on July 11, 2010. He was a faithful member of St. Johns Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J. Hodge. Carl enjoyed traveling and going to the casino. He loved watching CNN and complaining about the political climate. His motto was If you dont vote, dont say nothing! His blue eyes would light up the room whenever he entered and his smile captivated everyone. Carl was a very loving, caring and outspoken person who loved to laugh and talk. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marilyn Harris; two daughters, Roslyn Johnson, Indiana, Carlisa Smith, Jackson, Mississippi; four sons, Aaron (Whitley) Williams, Ohio, Henry Johnson, Carlos Johnson, Carl Harris Jr.; five step-children, Taronda Southward, David Favorite, Kyomonique (Orlando) McQueen, Armand Berry, Zhane Favorite; six children he raised as his own, Machell (Farod) Williams Morris, Eric D. (Mabika) Williams, Gwenda Johnson, Chester Pearson, Christin Smith, Peter Dennis; mother-in-law, Delores Favorite; father-in-law, Pastor Cammie Frazier; one sister-in-law, Jeanetta Favorite; two brothers-in-law, Cammie Favorite and Deion Lee; a special cousin, Ida Mae, Chicago, Illnois; many other relatives and friends including very special friends Tammy Vickers-Camel, Mary (Pete) Pratt-Land, Dorothy Johnson-Albernathy, Diane Cox, Hazelyn Bernadette Tinsley, Charlene Sanders, John, Yellie and Tyrone.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Roosevelt Goddard Harris; one sister, Emma Lou Harris-Williams; one brother, Johnny Harris; a niece and nephew; two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Favorite and Johnny Frazier.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the Aleda E. Lutz Medical Center, the St. John Baptist Church family, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
