Carl P Smith

Carl P. Smith was born in Saginaw, MI to Carl Smith and Ella Mae Williams. Carl attended Saginaw Public Schools and spent the remainder of his life in the city of Saginaw.
Carl was a gifted and humble musician. His abilities on the drums and bass guitar opened the door to many relationships with musicians across Michigan. He began to realize his dream of being a musician when he became part of the band Trail Way.
Carl married Glendora Stover on February 15th, 1974. Out of that union, three children were born; Choyalaray, Raylynn and Shanda Smith. As time progressed, Carl proved he could be a renowned musician as well as a loving and devoted family man.
In the latter part of his life, Carl's talent continued to earn him recognition. He played a variety in styles of music. Of the different genres, gospel music was his favorite. He epitomized his love for gospel music when he played for the Gospel Harmoniers. His charismatic attitude was an asset to anyone he played music with.
Carl loved to talk about Jesus. He would spend hours talking about the goodness of the Lord, He was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ on June 5th, 1998 at the House of Prayer Apostolic Church. Recently, he was a musician at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist church.
Carl will be remembered for his vibrant and friendly demeanor. His character was the combined definition of the words loving, peaceful, and fun. His funny catch phrases and cheerful attitude will always be cherished. The love he had for his family and friends will live on forever.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Ella Mae Williams; two daughters, Raylynn and Shanda Smith; one brother, Lonnie Smith Sr. all of Saginaw; one sister, Carla Garrett of Ypsilanti, MI; six grandchildren, Larcell Smith, Shawnikia Smith, Briana Smith, Shontae Smith, Jessie Donald, and Damarcus Smith of Saginaw; two great grandchildren, Sa'mari Mcphearson and Ramiyah Love; four nephews, Lonnie Smith Jr., Marvin Smith, Lowell Smith all of Saginaw, and Benjamin Linton of Ypsilanti, MI; two neices, Kalonna McZee of Flint, MI and Deja Thomas of Ypsilanti, MI; one uncle, Robert (Nedra) Williams of Saginaw; one great aunt, Alberta Mitchell; one great uncle, Sammy Kelley both of Chicago, IL; eleven first cousins, Sammy (Ida) Williams, Sheila Wilkens, Inez Williams, Carmen (Archie) Witherspoon, Ellis Williams, Serina Craten, Dennis (Frances) Craten, Robert Williams III, Debra (Tim) Bandy, Jacqueline Williams, Cameron Mitchell. He was blessed to mentor two young men whom he admired and respected, Corry, Larry and the House of Prayer Church family. A host of many cousins, friends
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Smith; one son, Choyalaray ;grandparents, Robert and Inez Williams; two aunts, Maratha Emerson and Dora Drain; one cousin, Lavern Craten.
