Carol Ramsey-Whitmore (Lansing)

June 20, 1950 — January 15, 2018

Mrs. Carol Ramsey Whitmore, age 67, of Lansing, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2018. Carol, an only child, was born, June 20 1950, the daughter of Nathaniel and Savannah Warren. Carol spent her formative years, as well as most of her adult life, in Detroit, Michigan, her birthplace. She attended Detroit public schools, graduating from Mumford High School. Following high school, Carol trained and worked in the medical field for many years.

At an early age Carol accepted Christ and was baptized in Detroit’s historic Second Baptist Church. The church is where Carol met her first husband, David Ramsey. Their union produced two children, Alicia and David, Jr. Sometime after the marriage ended, Carol relocated to Lansing, Michigan in the early 90’s, seeking a fresh start. Because Carol valued education, she continued her education, culminating in a degree from Davenport University in Applied Sciences.

Faith was an integral part of Carol’s life and she lived her faith both inside and outside of her Lansing church home, Tabernacle of David Worship Center. Carol was instrumental in starting a Prison Ministry there, which helped people prepare to reintegrate into society. Her work in the church also included various administrative duties. As a devout Christian, Carol became one of the Mother Ministers of Tabernacle of David.

In addition to her service in the church, Carol worked in several community-based organizations, such as Loaves and Fishes, LoveJoy Rehabilitation Centers, and Tri-County Re-Entry Coalition. She started a food program for homeless people and was involved in various outreach groups.

Carol’s enormous heart didn’t meet anyone that was a stranger. They say how some people will give you the shirt off their back if you need it; well Carol would do that and then make you part of her family. She has ties today with people from as far back as her elementary years. During her years in Lansing she became good friends with the Honorable Clinton Canady III and many others that can account for her very loving heart and ability to touch everyone she came in contact with.

During her last days Robert Whitmore remained faithfully by her side along with family and friends. As her final wishes were honored, it became immediately clear that the world would have a huge void without her, and that all of our lives will forever be changed. We will have to carry on her likeness as she tried to be like Jesus. We will have to open our hearts, and fellowship more with others, especially if that’s not something that we normally do.

Her loving heart didn’t rest for one minute. She was busy spreading joy. Carol enjoyed hosting gatherings, doing whatever she could for others, and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as the life of the party and the glue that brings everyone all together. She won’t just be missed she will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her companion, Robert Whitmore; two children, Alicia (John) Lloyd and David Ramsey Jr.; aunt, Rosalee Webb; three cousins, Greg and Michael Porter, Herman Mitchell Jr.; her beloved only grandchild, Olivia, whom she doted on. Carol will be sorely missed by innumerable other relatives and friends.
