Our loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Carthan departed this earthly life on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the age of 65 years. She was born May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan to Corine Toney and Charles Welch.
Caroline retired from General Motors Flint Truck and Bus Assembly after several years of service. She was also a member of UAW Local 598. On April 24, 1967 she married her soulmate, Mr. James Carthan. He survives her. Caroline was a faithful member of Daniels Den Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Taurus Simpson. Caroline was an extraordinary woman who loved her family and friends dearly. She raised her three wonderful sons, Michael, Marvell and James in Saginaw, Michigan. Caroline was so heavily family oriented she even had a huge hand in the upbringing of her nephews, Kevin and Devell Welch. Carolines kind and unique spirit will forever live on through the memories we all hold so dear.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory two sons, Michael (Barbara) Toney of North Fort Myers, Florida and James L. (Tanisha) Carthan of Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Neco Long and Miya Toney, both of North Fort Myers, Florida, Jai Layton, Travon Babers, Traviona Babers, James Babers, Jaylen Carthan, Semaj Babers and Jaidian Carthan, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one great-grandchild, Johnathan B. Spears of North Fort Myers, Florida; two sisters, Shirley (Henry) Welch and Ella Toney; one brother, Windsor (Sue) Welch; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Mary Balls and Barbara Sanes.
Caroline was preceded in death by one son, Marvell Toney, parents, Corine Toney and Charles Welch, stepfather, Willie Toney, one sister, Barbara Welch, one brother, Robert Kendall, sister-in-law, Laura Etta, two nieces, Charlotte Kendall and Tria Toney.
The family wishes to express special thanks to everyone who offered prayers, condolences and kind words.
