Ms. Carolyn J. Griffin passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 72 years. She was born on January 11, 1949, in LaGrange, Georgia, to Melvin and Lucille Crowley.

Carolyn attended public school in LaGrange, Georgia. After high school, she attended Cleveland Job Corps in Cleveland, Ohio, earning a diploma as a Certified Dental Assistant. This is where she met her husband, Irvin Griffin, Sr. To this union, two children were born, Skira and Irvin, Jr., who preceded her in death. After moving to Saginaw, Michigan, Carolyn earned an Associate in Social Work degree from Delta College. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church until the time of her death. There she served on the Hospitality Committee, sang with the Choir, and served in the Mission Department. Carolyn enjoyed traveling, reading, watching westerns, and cooking. She was a huge supporter of the Saginaw Rescue Mission. Carolyn retired from Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in June 2009.

She leaves to cherish loving memories one stepdaughter, Deborah Barr, Chattanooga, Tennessee: seven grandchildren, Frederic T. Curry, III, Cleveland, Ohio, Jada S. Curry, Chicago, Illinois, Jalen Goffney, Saginaw, Michigan, Isaiah A. Massey, Jordan R. Massey and Ashely N. Massey, all of Waldorf, Maryland, and Michael S. Barr, Chattanooga, Tennessee; two sisters, Rebecca Crowley-Ison, LaGrange, Georgia, Sherry Ann Wright, Lithonia, Georgia; one brother, Ralph E. Wright, Lithonia, Georgia; five nieces, Tammi Maner, Annette Kelly and Valerie Jackson, all of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Monica Bettes, Lithonia, Georgia, Lornnia Hollenquest, Rawlins, Humble, Texas; five nephews, Alfred Crowley, LaGrange, Georgia, Michael Crowley, Troy, Michigan, Lamar Williams, Houston, Texas, Darnell Underwood, Omaha, Nebraska, and Eric Maner, Saginaw, Michigan; cousins, Mary Crowley, Ernestine Babour, Timothy Fannin, Lillie Montgomery, Robert Fannin, Frank Crowley, and many other cousins that loved her dearly; sisters-in-law, Cassandra Jenkins, Atlanta, Georgia, Barbara Gandy. Live Oak, Florida, and Marlene Green, Phoenix, Arizona; brothers-in-law, John Ison, LaGrange, Georgia, Terry Underwood, Omaha, Nebraska, Irvin Underwood, Jr., Omaha, Nebraska; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Connie Wingard, Stella Williams, Vicky and Michael Smith, Vera Clark, Albert Beasley, Sr., Lloyd and Carolyn Riley, Frederic Curry, II, Celeste Lake, Clotee Fuller, Pamela Beasley, Helen Wright, Angie Smith and family, Connie Matthews, Rosie Ferguson, Robert Wingard, Jr., Bernie McGlothin, Raymond, Jackson, Sylvia Dickson, Connie Williams, and a very special goddaughter, Nicole (Elroy) Goffney.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lucille Crowley, husband, Irvin Griffin, Sr., children, Skira Massey and Irvin Griffin, Jr., brothers, Roma Jenkin and Emory Simpson, and sister-in-law, Maxine Hollenquest.

Carolyn is at peace now. SERVANT, WELL DONE!
