Carrie (Lansing) Smith

August 23, 1953 — April 11, 2015

Ms. Carrie Smith of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Age 61 years. She was born on August 23, 1953 in Tutwiler, Mississippi to Leona Smith and Leon McCullem.
Carrie relocated to Lansing, Michigan in the 60s with her mother. She was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School and Davenport University. Carrie enjoyed traveling and hanging out with friends at the bingo hall. In her final years she acquired an addiction to Candy Crush, and could often be found requesting more lives from her friends and family.
Memories from her children include plenty of good cooking and outings together with Carrie. She would often pack them up and take them off to a barbecue, movies, the lake or anywhere around lots of people.
Carrie was very active in the community and in the schools, and was well liked. She was an adoptive mother to many and was nicknamed "the Community Mom." Carrie was always willing to offer a listening ear, a hot meal, a place to rest or a dose of the whole truth.
The legacy of Carrie Smith is that of a selfless woman who would help anyone who needed it without judging them. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest in her sunglasses, hoop earrings, lipstick and classic cars. There are so many things about Carrie that those who knew her will remember from her love for music to her full bodied laugh.
