Mrs. Carrie Mae Wilbert Townsend was born July 26, 1947, in Quinten, Mississippi. She was the first of 12 children born to Robert and Mae Belle Lee. Carrie made her transition on Friday, April 7, 2023
Carrie is a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of ’65. She retired from the Saginaw Board of Education after working 30-plus years in the Special Education Department. Carrie served on the Finance Committee at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member for many years. She participated in numerous community activities and is a former member of the Elks Lodge in Saginaw, Michigan.
Carrie had a passion for gardening, baking, decorating, and of course shopping. She truly cherished spending valuable time with her family and a multitude of friends.
Memories of Carrie will be cherished by her daughter, Patricia Lynette Cooks; son, James Edward (Bridget) Cooks; sisters, Eva Mae Wilbert and Veronica Wilbert; brothers, Craig (Erica) Wilbert, Anthony (Glorye) Lee, and Thomas Wilbert; (9) grandchildren; (8) great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Townsend; parents; sons, Derrick Leon and Nathaniel Lamont Cooks; sister, Linda Gail Wilbert; brothers, William Paul, Clarence "Bo Peep," Bernard, Dwayne, and Robert “Bobbie.”
