Our beloved father, grandfather and brother, Carter Sample went home to be with our Lord on December 7, 2013 at the age of 88 years. The eldest son of Allen and Dannie Sample was born August 25, 1925 in Selma, Alabama.
Carter served his country with the United States Navy and was a World War II veteran. He migrated to Saginaw, Michigan where he began employment with General Motors and retired after over 25 years of faithful service. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Vincent McMillon. Carter was very good with his hands. He remodeled and renovated several homes throughout Saginaw County. Carter was will-known for his carpentry skills and wise advice. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His presence will be truly missed.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory four daughters, Tanya Sample-Chapman, Pamela Rogers-Cleaver, Lynn Rogers and Karen (John)Rogers-Perkins; seven sons, Irie (Carolyn) Sample, Lajuanda Lacy Rogers, Carthion (Gloria) Sample Sr., Anthony (Liz) Rogers, Aaron (Paula) Rogers, Eddie C. (Leslie) Rogers, and Lorenzo Hughes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren including one grand-daughter whom he was very close to, Lashawnya (Joe) Sample-Grace; one sister, Mary Sample-Mason;a cousin, Geraldine Hogg; a grand host of nieces and nephews; his loving dog, Buster; many other relatives and friends including his two close friends, James Jackson and Charlie McKinley.
Carter was preceded in death by three wives, Cora Lee Sample, Essie Perry-Sample and Katherine Rogers-Sample, three children, Allen, Brenda Sample-Hood and James Perry, three brothers, Allen, Lim and Lovell Sample, three sisters, Bessie Mae Jones, Laura Wilkerson and Idelia Sample, one cousin, David Williams, one dear friend, Geraldine Elliott Bitty.
