Cathy “Bissy” Miller, was born to George Miller and Elizzie B. Wilson in Roseland, Arkansas on Monday, August 28, 1944, embarked on a remarkable journey through life that touched the hearts of many. A few years after her birth, the family made a significant move to Laramie, Wyoming, where Cathy’s story would unfold.
Bissy, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, began her educational journey in Laramie, attending elementary and high school. Her love for learning and words quickly became evident when she claimed victory in the Laramie High School spelling bee a testament to her intellect and dedication.
Cathy aspired to be an English teach, but became a nurse, serving in the healthcare profession. After graduation from high school, she obtained her degree through Ivinson Memorial Hospital’s LPN Program and relocated to Denver, Colorado for a short period of time.
In 1965, she decided to relocate to Lansing, Michigan. Cathy worked for Motor Wheel Corporation for a few years before utilizing her nursing degree. Ine 1984, she started working for Ingham Medical Hospital. She worked in the Labor and Delivery Department for years, then she transferred to Outpatient Surgery until she retired in 2006. She was not just a nurse; she was a source of unwavering support and encouragement for both her patients and colleagues. Her commitment to her work was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Outside of her career, Cathy had a zest for life that was contagious. A passionate traveler, avid reader, movie enthusiast, and a devoted fan of the legendary Michael Jackson. She enjoyed watching various sports, the Denver Broncos were her favorite team. She also worked in her community alongside her son, Dennis, and was a member of Mount Hope Church.
Cathy was a loving mother and grandmother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
In 1989, she met the love of her life, Mr. James Lewis. Their love story was filled with laughter, shared dreams, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they built a life full of love and joy, creating countless memories they embraced and cherished every moment of their journey until she transitioned to eternal life (Heaven) on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 79 years old.
She is survived by Mr. James Lewis; her children, Marion, Darlene, and Leslie all of Laramie, Wyoming; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ashley James Miller, Dennis James Miller, Tariq Miller, Rochelle Miller, Kyle Miller, and Dynell Miller; siblings, Jesse Lee (Juanita) Miller, Jimmie Lee (Shirley) Miller, Arnett Ezell of Laramie, Wyoming and Sherene (Craig) Shelby of Georgia, who will carry forward her legacy of compassion, strength, and love.
She is preceded in death by her son, Dennis “Fuzzy” Miller; parents, George Miller and Elizzie B. Wilson; sisters, Ethel Brown and Carmin Wilson Hardy; brothers, Junior Lee Miller and David Lee Wilson.
