Catherine Young

Ms. Catherine Young passed way Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Medilodge Nursing Facility in Frankenmuth, Michigan. She was born August 17, 1943 to the union of Nathaniel and Emma Jakes in Phillips County, Arkansas.

Catherine, referred to as “Cat” or “Auntie Cat”, attended Delta College where she received her degree for Pharmacy Technician. She worked for General Motors Corporation Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant for several years. She was also a licensed cosmetologist and that was her passion. She owned her own salon for many years.

Catherine was a long time member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, accepting Christ at an early age. She attended church faithfully and served in ministry before becoming ill.

Cat loved cooking, gardening, crafting, shopping, laughing and dressing up. She had such a big heart and loved helping her family and friends in any way that she could. She loved her family, grandchildren and community so much. She was the neighborhood mom. To know Cat was to love her. She would always make you smile and if she could help you, she would. Her spirit and memory will live forever. We all love you Mom.

Catherine was preceded in death by son, Jarvis Young, Sr.; sisters, Cornelius Jakes, Moroline Greenlee, Dororthy Ware, Rebecca Clemons; brothers, Percy, Eddie and Freddie Jakes.

She leaves to cherish her memory sons, James Jr. (Shirley) Young, Jason Sr. (Jacqueline) Young; stepdaughters, Felton Wilbourn, LaShell, RaShell Young; sister, Cora Sweargren; ten grandchildren, Katoria, Kathleen, Quintel Sr. (Akira) Young, Jarvis Jr. (Veronica) Young, Cortez Owens, Terrance Cooper, Nosaj, Kya, Tia, Jason Jr; godson, Daryl Bond; many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends Dorothy Tate, James Young, Sr. and Marilyn Coleman.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Medilodge of Frankenmuth, Covenant Healthcare Staff for the help and care of our loved one, Tracy Westbrook and Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
