Cha'kur Christian Olijahda Tolbert, age 8, of Saginaw, Michigan, transitioned from earth to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. He was born December 25, 2003 in Saginaw, Michigan to Chauntel Drain-Tolbert and Roosevelt Tolbert Jr.
Cha'kur was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He sang with the youth choir. He was a 3rd grade honor student at Houghton Elementary School where he played football, basketball and was a member of the Chess Club. He was a true Houghton Star. Cha'kur participated in the summer gardening program at Houghton-Jones Resource Center, Boys 2 Men and the 21st Century programs through Saginaw Public Schools. Cha'kur enjoyed wrestling, blay blading, writing poetry, creating rap songs and spending time with his family. He was also a member of Dorians Pride AAU Basketball team.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Chauntel Drain-Tolbert and Roosevelt Tolbert Jr., grandparents, Alice J. Robinson and C.L. Richardson, great-grandmother Mrs. Ethel M. Drain; 6 sisters: ChaunCi, ChaMary, Melissa, Andrea, Tina and Emily Tolbert all of Saginaw; 4 brothers: Charleston Buriel, Chquille, Chaun Samuel and Roosevelt Tolbert, III. Aunts: RaJeana Drain-Rodgers and Beatrice Townsend; uncles: Curtis Richardson, III, Jimmie L. Robinson, Jr., William Flounoy and Willie Rodgers all of Saginaw. He also leaves his Godmother, Ethelind Evonne Scott of Piedmont, South Carolina. God-sister, Jessica Scott of Greensboro North Carolina. Special cousins, Willie Rodgers, II, Xavier Williams, and Minister Jeffery and Gerri Bowen. Cameron Riley, Stevon Winchester, many other relatives and special friends.
Cha'kur was preceded in death by grandparents, Sarah Lee and Roosevelt Tolbert, Sr. and Jimmie L. Robinson Sr; Great-Grandparents, Helena and Curtis Richardson; Great-Grandfather Rev. Johnnie Drain; a great aunt, Patricia K. Drain.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Eugene Guster and family, Pastor Delwin Tatum, Sr. and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Rodrick A.
