Charlene James (Lansing)

June 25, 1946 — January 29, 2024

Charlene James entered into God’s care on January 29th, 2024. She was born on June 29th, 1946, to the late Lorene and Amanda Jones in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Charlene graduated from W.A. Higgins High School and decided to further her education at Delta State University. After graduating, she, her mother, and six sisters moved to Lansing, Michigan where she met, married, and is now reunited with the only man, she ever loved, Willie Earl James, and from this union her one and only child was born, Tasha Wynette James. She worked for General Motors Corporation and the Lansing School District before retiring after many years of service.


Charlene loved her family & friends, her “baby” (Tasha), Red Lobster and God, and she expressed her love for Christ as a singing and praising faithful member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Caroll Carter and First Laday Louise Carter, where she previously served as an Usher Board President, Sunday School teacher and Reverend.


To know Charlene was to LOVE Charlene. She was a person to be admired, cherished, and respected. She was a loving person, kind and funny. She loved to laugh. She also enjoyed talking to and spending time with family and friends.


Charlene leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Tasha James; stepdaughter Angela Allen; stepsons, Tracy Osborn, Kevin James, Travis James, Reggie Duncan, and Quentin Burton; sisters, Ethel Peters of Franklin Tennessee, Diane Thompson, Jereline Love, and Martha Jones all of Lansing, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and close friends including Mrs. Gloria Davis, Mrs. Gloria Calhoun, and Ms. Hazel Bethea.


Charlene is proceeded in death by her husband, Willie Earl James; parents, Lorene & Amanda Jones; sisters, Bernice Jones and Mary Jones; brother, James Jones; sister-in-law, Edith Mearl Butler; brothers-in-law, Robert & Jake James; niece, Pamela Brown; nephews, Kyle Brown, Bart Edward Jones, Paul Jones, and Lemark Jones.
