Charles Alexander Burnette, Sr. affectionately known as “Dadda,” was born January 25th, 1959 in Memphis, Tennessee to Ezell Biles and Oscar Burnette. He transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the age of 62 years and now lives in Heaven’s Gate Community at 7777 Cloud 9 Boulevard, on Gold Streets Avenue.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Godfather & friend who will be dearly missed by all.
Charles moved from Memphis, Tennessee to Chicago, Illinois during his high school years. There he met his beautiful, royal, Chicago, Wakanden queen- Addie Mae (GG) Burnette. To this union, they were blessed with 3 wonderful, beautiful, fabulous, talented & awesome offspring. After moving to Lansing, Michigan Charles worked at General Motors. He later gained employment with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) In the region offices of Metro and Grand. He then finished in Lansing at the Van Wagoner Building where he retired after 30+ years of service.
Charles was a faithful member of Lansing Christian Center Church, under the leadership of Pastor Howard & PolLe Davenport. He served as a Teen Ministry Leader, a sound & media technician & proudly sang on the Praise Company.
Charles devoted intimate time with the Lord on a daily basis. He lived a life of prayer and worship, being sure to instill the Word of God in his wife, children & grandchildren. He was the peacekeeper, problem solver, and voice of reason through every “intense fellowship” within the family.
Always yearning to have a large family, God answered his heart’s desire. After years of an endeared friendship with his oldest daughter, Charles & family welcomed (by way of adoption) his now oldest daughter, Rhea (husband & 3 kids) McCarty.
Charles leaves to cherish his legacy, his best friend, confidant, lover and, wife, Addie Mae “GG” Burnette; 4 children, Rhea (Mike) McCarty, Vera (Maurice) Hills, Charles (Arashon) Burnette, Jr., and LaToya Burnette; 14 grandchildren, Shadaira McCarty, Michael McCarty, Jr., Re’Jere McCarty, Xavier Hills, Maurice Hills II, Maddox Hills, MaZahn Hills, Makhi Smith, Niyah Burnette, Mikel Smith, Malachi Burnette, Levi Burnette, Major Burnette, and Mykal Burnette; 3 sisters, Dorothy Carter, Debra (Charles) Glass, Felecia (Hammond) Lambert; 2 brothers, Thomas Burnette and Lester (Cottie) Burnette; 2 God-daughters, Rasheka and Raina Christian; and a host of nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ezell Burnette; brother, Oscar Burnette, Jr.; and 3 sisters, Christine Burnette, Zelma “Honey” Burnette-Hampton, and Bobby Burnette-Carlock.
