Charles Lavaughn Robertson

Charles Lavaughn Robertson, extraordinary brother, loving father, devoted uncle, caring companion, and great friend, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 10th at Saginaw Covenant Hospital, after courageously fighting a medical condition for a year. He was 52 years of age.

On November 24, 1968, Charles was born in West Memphis, Arkansas, to Trannie Lavada Gray and Mane Charles Robertson. He moved to Saginaw at an early age and was educated by the Buena Vista School District.

Charles “Charlie”, had several memorable nicknames, with a few being Left-Turn, Cha-Cha, and Big Ten. Each name encompassed his adorable shining personality.

Charlie was a soulful and good-natured person. He would give you the shirt off his back but wouldn't let you take it off. He had the biggest heart, the wittiest comebacks, the most sharing soul ever lent to this earth. He always contributed a big smile to any situation as he found a way to make you laugh. His gentle connection to his family was simple; no matter what you needed or asked of him, he did it with a smile. He had a covenant relationship with God and had accepted Christ into his life as God's healing was bestowed upon him on several occasions. He attended Daniel’s Den Ministries before moving to Phoenix, Arizona.

It's hard to capture him in a few paragraphs, but Charlie enjoyed Big Ten basketball and football. His favorite team was Michigan State. He affectionately loved good food, music, and the outdoors, which are factors that make up a good party. He was easily labeled the greatest uncle and brother. His dance moves were incomparable to anyone. Charles coped with life by finding humor and making others smile in all situations. He enjoyed life the way he wanted.

Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his companion of eight years, Ruth Honer of Phoenix Arizona; children: Charles Laverne Robertson III, Julius McCullough, and Lashell McCullough; four grandchildren; sisters, Debra Thomas and Tammy Gray; brothers, Donnell Gray and Willie Ray, both of Chicago, Illinois, David Roberston, and his little twin brothers, Twannie Lushun (Georgette) Gray and Twannie Deon Gray; special nieces, Debbie Woods, Amber Gray, Jaquiese Gray, Chole Gray; special nephews, Leonard (Rachel) Hernandez, who devoted much time to his care, Darius Woods, Monterio Wright; numerous other relatives and friends, including special friends Michelle McCullough and Shawntella Williams.

Charlie was predeceased by his mother whom he truly adored, Ms. Trannie Lavada Gray; father, Mane Charles Robertson; grandmother, Minnie Thomas; special uncles, Chester and James Sloan.
