Charles Alexander Thompson was born August 14, 1941 in Annapolis, Maryland, the son of William Jr. and Jamie B. Steele Thompson.
Charles resided in Saginaw, Michigan, having relocated in the early 1960s from Detroit, Michigan. His known church affiliations were The New Christ Community Church and Victorious Believers Ministries. It is important to know that he was saved and did have a personal relationship with the Lord even though he didn’t always actively attend church. He has held several employment positions throughout his life, being employed at General Motors, janitorial services with Saginaw Public Schools, highway construction worker, certified truck driver and retiree from Bay City Water Department working in maintenance. Before his passing, he was a chore provider for Saginaw County. His jobs took him far and wide, developing many lasting friendships along the way.
His hobbies and interests include fishing, traveling, entertaining/hosting get togethers and barbecues and bowling. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing dominoes and card games. He loved Chinese food and dining out. And he loved to shop at Walmart, malls and anywhere.
His characteristics include being a family man. He loved his spouse Katherine and his entire family immensely, and was affectionately called “Grandpump” by all the grandkids. Their home on Sheridan Street was everybody’s meeting place. People were always stopping over to chat or whatever because it was a home filled with love, family, comfort, food, laughter and good times.
Charles was Mr. Home Improvement, a handy man who enjoyed renovating, cleaning and fixing anything around the house. He was loyal, generous, happy and moved in slow motion. He loved a cool, sleek car and always maintained a nice one suitable for traveling, with his PT Cruiser being his toy. He loved music, especially the Motown sound, having grown up in Detroit during the doo wop era and having spent many days crooning on street corners with the boys.
Charles was an impeccable dresser and always believed in wearing quality from casual to dress, and cologne was a must have. Though he tried, his “Robot” and “Funky Chicken” dances needed help. Playing any board games, we had to have a timer because he was so slow. Some of our fond memories include him balling his fist and telling all the grandkids “I’m a bust your lip” and him calling the kids “Grandpump’s babies.”
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Yolanda (Stephon) Galloway, Macomb, Michigan, Tamiko (Maurice) Thompson-Shelton, Washington, DC, Valerie (Larrie) Packard, Saginaw, Michigan; son, Tyrone Weaver, Saginaw, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Tracy Young, Texas; 19 grandchildren, Deverell (Alana) Baty, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Delorean (Rita) Packard, Bay City, Michigan, Tyrone (Gabrielle) Dent, Columbus, Ohio, Jeremy (Shanteria) Green, Saginaw, Michigan, Brandon (Sara) Henderson, Williamson, North Dakota, Rico Evans, Waterloo, Iowa, Quantrice and Shauntrice Evans, Grand Rapids, Michigan, DeQuantae Evans, Detroit, Michigan, Cortland, Chandler, Carrington, Caylon, Chloe Young, Plano, Texas, Julian McCoy, Immanuel Ingram, Washington, DC, Nadia, Zoe, Sheridan Galloway, Macomb, Michigan; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert (Joyce) Thompson, Landover, Maryland, Anthony Bivens, Washington, DC; niece, Tamara Thompson and spouse, Washington, DC; three nephews, Chad Thompson, Washington, DC, Jimmie Harrison, Jr., Anthony (Tonya) Harrison, Saginaw, Michigan; 13 great-nieces and nephews; cousin, Darlene and Eddie, Detroit, Michigan; sister-in-law, Rebecca Young, Louisville, Kentucky; many other relatives and friends including neighbors, Gomez, Thomas, Abbott Family, Harrison, Russell, McClure, Suggs, Terrell Families and special friends Art, Dee, Kathy Horrison and Family.
