Charlie Harris

February 19, 1928 — August 20, 2010

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me, the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 NKJV.
Mr. Charlie Harris, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Covenant Healthcare-Harrison. Age 82 years. He was born February 19, 1928 in Union Springs, Alabama to Tommie and Mary Harris.
Charlie was a member of Greater FreeWill Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully as church trustee and as a member of the male choir until his health failed him. He retired from General Motors Malleable Iron Plant in 1975 and was a member of UAW Local 455. Mr. Harris was a self-taught carpenter, he could fix or build anything. He was always willing, with an open heart, to help anyone in need.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 23 years, Mrs. Equilar Harris; four biological children, David Harris, Patricia Brent, Sylvia Harris, Duane Harris; four step-children, Kyra (Frank) Miller, Sheldon Poole, Sheila (James) Swilley, Milton Goss; thirty grandchildren; seventy-nine great grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ms. Mary Lee Donald, Ms. Tille Stewart, Saginaw, MI, Mrs. Elizabeth (Major) Davis, New York, NY, Mrs. Lula (Willie) Hooks, Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Mrs. Annie Harris; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Marshall Goss, James Robinson and Deacon William Davis. The family would like to express a special thanks to Pastor James E. Speed and the Greater FreeWill Missionary Baptist Church.
When the second coming occurs, he will be reunited with those who preceded him in death, his children, Charlie Jr., Carolyn Harris; parents, Tommie and Mary (Mims) Harris; brothers, Tommie Harris, Johnnie Harris; sisters, Lucinda Calhoun, Bessie Ransey, Lela Harris; step-daughter, Phyllis Poole-Goss; step-grandson, James D'Marco Swilley-Poole; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mae Harris.
