Mr. Charlie James Whitley, born January 10, 1941, in Mason, Tennessee, to Willie and Eliza Whitley, he peacefully departed this earthly life on August 22, 2024.

From a young age, Charlie embraced his faith, accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior and being baptized into a life of devotion. Known for his radiant personality and infectious joy, Charlie had a gift for lighting up any room he entered. His presence was a celebration, marked by his love for music, dancing, and the lively spirit he brought to every gathering. Whether he was restoring old radios, crafting his own wine, or taking leisurely walks, Charlie lived life with a vibrant enthusiasm that touched everyone around him.

Charlie is lovingly remembered by his four brothers, Willie (Carrie) Whitley, John Frank Whitley, Lester Whitley, and Bobby (Marilyn) Whitley; his sister, Gloria Shaw; and his god-sister, Edna (Pat) Mayo, all of Saginaw, Michigan. He is also survived by his cherished brother-in-law, Robert Bates of Henning, Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who held him dear.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by six siblings: Sponcia Dell Bates, Mary Whitley, Ludell Taylor, Henry Whitley, CJ Whitley, and Emmett Whitley. He was also preceded by his grandparents, Duty (Lavenia) Macklin and Charlie (Virginia) Whitley; five sisters-in-law: Dorothy, Linda, Sandra, Sadie, and Lizzy Whitley; one brother-in-law, James Shaw; and his significant other, Rosa Faye “T-Cake” Degrate.

Charlie’s life was a beacon of love and joy. His memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but remembered with warmth and affection.

The family would like to send special thanks to LaCoryia Clark, Keisha Clark, Margaret Stuckett, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
